Default Saratoga 40

Has anyone flown the Saratoga 40 Hanger 9 with the wheels and then the floats. Was there any differance in the balance point, was it nose heavy with the floats???

I have flown it both on the wheels and on floats.

I reviewed the Saratoga for RCU a couple of years ago, and I still love flying the plane!

What you want to do is balance the plane on the wheels, then install the floats. With the floats installed, balance it again, and add any necessary weight directly to the floats, so that you don't need to re-balance when the wheels are reinstalled. I added stick-on weights to the tip of each float to balance. Then, when I switch back to the wheels, I'm ready to go right away!

I have never flown a plane that flies the same on wheels as it is on floats. The Saratoga doesn't feel any different with the floats on, and flies just as true as when the wheels are on!

If you haven't bought it yet, I highly recommend getting one.

Will a DLE 20 fit on this thing? Or is it too much?

Way too much! A good .46 is a great match, even with floats. I have a Saito .82 on mine, and it cruises at 1/3 throttle.

Well, I've given up on glo, so it's a no go. And yes, many have said this is a great model...but the price point may prevent many from experiencing this great plane. Perhaps I would power this baby with some cheap chinese electric motors and batteries. I hope they have a sell on this baby.

It truly is a unique plane and from your video flies w/excellent characteristics. I just wish it was a bit cheaper.
