Can anyone give mem some input on putting a magnum 108 2 stroke in the rascal 110. I recomends a .91-1.20 2 strokes, seems kinda small to me.
Any ideas on the subject?

Jeff,
Can't really help you out with a recommendation on the engine to use. Just to let you know, if they made the 110 the same as the 40, watch the engine mounting braces. I took my engine off to do some work on it and found one of the braces had broken.
I'm glad I found out on the ground and not in flight. I went down and picked up a piece of steel to replace it with, now the hard part is cutting.
Enjoy your plane, I really like mine.

Thanks,
I am redoing the firewall anyway, I was given this plane after a fellow member had a small mishap with it. The gear and the firewall were riped out, and a couple other minor ding's. Other than that it is still in great shape.
I have read other posts that it doesn't take much to fly it with, hopefully someone else will post that has tried a lower end engine.

I did see a post on here about someone putting a different cowl on the Rascal. If you have front end damage you may want to look into that and see if you can find out what they did. I had a thread going on the engine braces but it was a few weeks ago.
Good luck with your new, or slightly new, plane. Well, it's new to you anyway. lol

A guy in our club has an O.S. 160 on his and it flies like a dream. He said he's never had it over half throttle and I believe him. He also said that it would probably fly fine with a .91

Mine flew with a saito 120. Very nice combo. Would do a knife edge accross the whole field with very little effort. If you get too heavy it wont do that. The 108 should do just fine.
But alas, I put mine in yesterday. Post mortum showed the battery must have come loose from its mounting and unpluged itself while doing mild aerobatics. What a sick feeling when you really dont have it and you watch it doing lazy circles and loosing about 20' each pass right into the ground. Damage is extensive but rebuildable. It was my favorite plane. Oh well, NEXT!!

Hi everybody,
Have been flying a Rascal 110 with my son now for a little less than two months. We are running a Saito 180 and a JR 8103. (Has the 811 digital servos and a 1400 JR battery) This is way overkill in the engine department but is a lot of fun. The 120, 150 and 180 are all the same physical size with different internals. The landings are a crawl-in affair and side slips are just too cool. As big as this thing is, you can slow-fly it in a phone booth! Knife edge is a hoot. I found out by accident that the Rascal can hover like our CAP. I got the plane to back down to the ground and touch. As I throttled up to blast out of the hover the engine quit at about 12-15 feet high. I'm about to commit model aviation history here...... Keep listening. When this thing quits I have visions of a multi-piece back end to this bird. (Kinda like a bag of balsa sticks from the trailing edge of the wing on to the back end!) I'm staring at this dead bird in a straight-up vertical and all of a sudden the tail starts to kick back and the whole thing comes in for a reverse landing! I wish I could tell you I did it on purpose but I was frozen at the sticks and it just happened in a split second. It did a 10 foot roll-out totally backwards, totally un-assisted and sat there without a scratch.... I Windexed the ba-jeevers out of this plane and headed for the house. I wasn't going to get this lucky ever again but I was getting to take it home in one piece. I have since taken the plane out and tried to duplicate the reverse tailslide-landing roll-out at altitude but it just does a plane old drop the nose manuever and starts flying again....... Ever see that old cartoon about the singing frog?? Our Rascal 110 can fly up a storm but it just ain't singing lately! Enjoy yours. We enjoy ours!
