Default new Hanger 9 Taylorcraft

I bought a new Taylorcraft from hanger 9 and need info on the different engine choices used, so I can decide what the balance issues are with say a 4stroke versus a gas engine.

Thanks Richard.

Balance should not be an issue with any engine wiithin the recommended size's of 20-26cc. I would put a 20cc in it.

With it's flying weight closer to 17 lbs instead of the advertised 15.5 lbs, using even a DLE20 is a bit marginal in power, so I would suggest you use as a minimum a good performing 26cc gas engine.

Nope. Mine is the new Bind-N-Fly version and I added nothing.

That's exactly what I wanted to know, how much if any lead was required to balance, I have a bmca 26cc, saito 125, zdz 40, roto 35, and ss26r, all good engines but different weights.

Mike i don't mean to be a pain, can you tell me what 26 gasser you used and how much does it weigh? or is the new bind and fly more expensive version a new design?

The G-26 came with it. It's the same plane, but it has the radio pre-installed and the G-26 comes with it. I didn't weigh the engine, but according to the web, it weighs 59.6oz w/muffler

I've mounted a Syssa SAP 180 30cc on the front of mine. I had to move the cowl forward about 1/2 inch which meant longer standoffs. Once Iget them from Gravy Goodness, I'll see how it balances.

With the stock standoffs, I had to add 2 pounds of weight to the front. I moved the battery and throttle servo to the space just behind the firewal and removed the weight.

Working in that area of limited space proved to be more than my XXL hands could stand.

I made 2 5/8" square cut-outs on both sides of the fuselage. Smith Precision Aircraft made up 2 hatches for those spaces and I can now access that area easily with great looking and very funtional hatches! Thanks Jason for the awesome work!

All that's left to get it back into the air is the standoffs and gluing in the wood doughnuts with attached blind nuts for cowl attachment.

The Syssa is a brute for power, smooth running, easy to start, and really hauls this aircraft around with authority!

Best Regards!

A few pics....
