I am building a DP Ultimate for a friend and we want to run a gas engine. I've had the same set up with a Brison 2.4 with a tuned pipe, but I think I want to go a little lighter this time. We are considering a 3W24. any suggestions ?
Thanks

Have an MDS 148 in mine and it flies great! Saw one last year with an RCS 1.4 in it and the guy loved it. The only drawback to a gas engine in this ship is the extra weight. DP already recommends putting the battery in the rear of the servo compartment. You will probably end up needing something astearn for balance.

One of the local guys here is working on his DP Ultimate and is planning on a Brison 2.4. How did yours fly. Why are you going lighter this time? Was the Brison too much engine? He considered the RCS 1.8, but thought it weighed as much as the Brison (he wanted a ZDZ 2.4 but they were out of stock) and wasn't nearly as powerful. He's had two Goldberg Ultimates with G-23s in them and they flew great.

Well, I've had two DP Ultimates. The one with the Brison did feel a little heavy in the air, and really torqued the plane when full throttle was applied. It was hard to keep in a straight verticle upline. The other one had an OS 1.08, a little under powered for 3D stlye flying but flew great otherwise. I would like the lighter feel with a little more power.

i have a DP with the rcs 1.4 on it and a 16 x 8 apc prop it flies great with that engine; howerer 3d with this motor forget it. I will be putting something with more uh on this one as I love to fly gas also. I orginally flew it 5-7 flights with a satio 180 and man that was 3d heaven. It still will balance with in spec with the 1.4. Vertilce is very limited unless you take a slow apporach at it. Hope this helps you some.

I heard the Saito 1.80 is AWESOME in the DP Ultimate...perfect 3D match....although I would love to do gas too it seems the power to weight doesn't bring the life out of it like the Saito does...gas would be nice though

Just fired mine up for the first time yesterday. 18-8 Zinger 8400+
The engine is lighter and more powerful than the saito, and supposedly uses less full which I can believe after running wide open and break in rich with the ocassional leaning a 24oz tank lasted 11min 32 seconds. Ran strong on club fuel 12.5% Red Max. My Saito drank 30% like I drink Gatorade on a hot day of digging. The 1.60 Started with a simple back flip third try, and sloppy wet. Power was awesome. I have a bisson muffler, but a Jett muffler supposedly increases this engine by 25%. This engine really rips, and I was impressed with the range on it. No where near as on and off as my .91FX. My vote would be this way. Also this engine is a 1/4 pound lighter than a moki 1.8 and just as strong IMHO. This engine would be at least a pound lighter than any gas. At $240 I figure you cannot go wrong. From what I hear the DPM Ultimate flies awesome on it. I have mine on a DPM 330L which is Dave's reccomended engine for the 330L, and I got that straight from him. I have seen the DPM Ultimate w/ a Moki 1.8 and it flew very well, I have to think a 1/4 pound lighter, w/ as much if not more power it would be awesome. If you have to have gas, go with any of the lighter ones. I like the 3W they seem the smoothest, most reliable, and relatively lightweight. I was also recently impressed with a Fuji, but have no specifics, just that it was very smooth. If you hate glow go gas but I'll take the extra cleanup, and spend the fuel dollars all day rather than take a gorgous light acrobatic Biplane, shake it to death, and laden it like a swallow trying to carry a coconut w/ a gas engine. Just my opinion, and you know what my mother says about opinions...
