Has anyone seen this yet? It is on Tower's site:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...1&I=LXCHY4&P=7
and Quantum's.

$199 bucks - looks interesting....

Let us know if you have seen it!

Saw one hanging at the SIG booth at Toledo. It was solid red with the standard white star decals. In my opinion, not a very eye catching covering job, kind of boring so I did not take a real good look at it. I'll stick with the one I built. With a few mods, a great flying airplane.

Have you seen the yellow? Does it look any better? Wing bottom same as the top?

What are the mods? What size engine do you have?

I'm just finishing a 79" spacewalker and it is my first low-wing plane. I thought that the 4* 60 might be a good prelude to this (less $ if I dumb-thumb).

Also, have a OS 61 with a pitts style muffler that I could use on the 4* but can't tell from the pix if the engine could be side mounted.

What do you think?

I haven't seen the yellow one but can't imagine it being any better looking than the red. What caught my eye was that it was hanging up there and looked so plain as compared to the others on the display. I remember thinking that it looked dusty like it had been hanging in a hobby shop for awhile. Took a close look and saw that it was the ARF. Not impressed, at least visually. I do not recall any difference from the top and bottom wing.

I am actually on my third 4 star 60. This one is powered with a OS91 Surpass. As far as mods, I clipped the wings one bay, added about 1 1/4 inch to the rudder and elevator. I also am using TNT gear. Right now it is my favorite airplane. The extra on the tail improves the knife edge and when you add the power, the tail comes up instantly. Lot's of fun. I am also going to rebuild one of the first two that crashed due to pilot error. I just picked up a extra wing kit. Most definitely will clip the wing, maybe a little more. The first two had a Supertiger 90 up front. Way too much power but lots of fun.

I don't know about mounting an engine sideways. You have the cheeks to contend with and it might look funny. I have seen one or two of these with cowlings. Really adds to the appearance. Might experiment with a cowl also. Hope this helps.

Thanks again cbreeze

I think I may bite-the-bullet and buy the kit.

Even though I don't have the time to put it together, I can make the mods you suggested and cover it in a color these old eyes can see, like neon yellow...LOL

I'd like to use the OS 61 on it as I got it NIB cheap, just have to find a standard muffler instead of the pitts it came with......

The older I get, the more cautious I get and the 4* looks like the ideal transistion into low-wing rather than augering my new Spacewalker.

Going flying now and put the first flight on the new US40 with flaps...Hope there is an expert out at the field to take it up and trim it.....after 10 years away from the hobby I get a little anxious (grin).

Thanks again for all the help!

The Four star 60 kit goes together so fast and easy you can almost say it "builds itself" The wing halves are the only components that take any time. Do not worry about the way they are built. They are very strong. Once you get the fuse side pieces together, everything interlocks and it builds fast.

If you don't do anything else, shorten the wings by one bay. It makes the plane more nimble, looks a little nicer and does not appreciably take away from the floating characteristics. Also the other must do, cause you will do it anyway, is replace the stock landing gear. Will last for a while but TNT makes exact replacement.

Might I suggest a MACS muffler for your engine. That is what I had on my Supertigers. Only had to trim a little more of the check and it was a good fit.

I can send you pictures of mine. I just put black and white stripes on the bottom. Can't miss that. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the tips cbreeze!

Well, I'm convinced....There were three 4* 40's at the field today and they flew oh, so nice...the 60 should be just right for me (BIGGER!).

I checked the MACS muffler and that looks like the way to go, I think only US$30 vs. about US$58 for the OS stocker. Thanks for the tip!

Also liked the TNT landing gear at US$20...better to do it right first than to do it over, yes?

The little Ultra Stick 40 flew off-the-boards but I couldn't see the little bugger (58" wingspan) plus a full white bottom wing. Just finished putting six 5x5" red triangles on the botton. Looks like ca-ca but maybe it will help!

I am going to finish the Spacewalker and hang it then buy the 4* 60 kit and practice with it.

I'm sure you'll be hearing from me later this summer!

Thanks again for your kindness in sharing your information with me...It is greatly appreciated!

Are they really available? They have advertised the Kadet Sr ARF for a year now and they are not out.

I just answered my own question. Here's the status on Tower:

Order Pending: Product is in the process of being ordered. We can accept back orders on these items.

Sounds like maybe Sig is at it again.

Tower sez no, but Quantum Models sez yes...

Maybe....LOL

Well, they don't actually say yes, but they list it as available..(sigh)

Well, actually they just list it...(double sigh).

Guess they'll get a few calls tomorrow to check stock!

Tower had the YS91FZ as "on order" and I bought it the same day from Central Hobbies for US$40 less.....so, what's the deal with Tower?

Anyway, I think it is worth waiting for.....

...It's sure nice to see that big brown truck pull up to your house after you've forgotten you've ordered anything....

....Better than Christmas, yes? LOL
