Default What engine for Patty Extra

Hello all,
I'm trying to decide what engine to go with. Da, ZDZ,BME. I'm leaning towards the ZDZ,but thought I read somewhere that the port timing on that engine is better suited to tuned pipe set ups. Anybody heard this?

Thanks

John

DA50, BME50, ZDZ50, or Brison 3.2.... All will work great on it.

John:

Do a search for the GP Patty Wagstaf Extra. You'll find the thread that has thousands and thousands of opinions on engines and everything else about this plane. I believe it's located in the Giant Aircraft (1/4 scalle or bigger) forum.

ZDZ, BME DA, Taurus, etc at 50cc will fly this plane with authority. I have the BME 50 on mine and it's out standing. Unlimited vertical.

Our field has a couple of them flying around, including mine with the first gen ZDZ50's. Another strong performing one has a DA50 in it and I am very impressed. IMHO if I were to do it again, and I might, I would go with the new ZDZ50NG. I saw this engine in person in a Hangar 9 Cap 232 80" and it tached ~500 rpm more than mine with the same prop (Menz 22x8) and muffler (BCM Pitts w/ends cut), no BS. I'm seeing what I can do to replace my 50 with the NG because I think it is that much better. Good luck and no matter what you go with, have fun!

I have a DA 50 in my Patty - Maiden flight today, I put a ZDZ 50 in the Hangar 9 80" CAP and it will turn a Mejzlic 22-10 at 6700. Dick Hanson has done mucho testing on the ZDZ's and will attest to the fact that the 50 likes the tuned pipe/cannister setups but ZDZ is listening cause the new 50 they are making has less aggressive timing and makes more power on the in cowl muffs. If I buy another 50 it will be the DA or a BME 55 if that ever comes out.
