Well guys, I finally finished and had a chance to put two tanks through him today. Wow, does the Magnum 120 yank him up quick at half throttle even....smile. I just can't get enough ground clearance though, even after adding after market landing gear, and 4 1/2" tires. The first landing was a little bumpy... learning the plane.... and the prop knicked the ground, and stopped the engine. The second landing was better, but once I got him slowed down, I hit a dip in the ground surface, and popped the prop pretty good. It was enough to cause the tip to splinter. I was flying with a 16x5 Zinger wood. My next flight will be with a Zinger 15x6-10 to help with the ground clearance.
On the take off though, man, 1/2 throttle at a rich setting even made him jump and climb effortlessly into the big blue. I flew at just over half throttle, and made sure I hade a thick trail of smoke lineing the sky behind. The engine though has me greatly worried. When I turn it over, if I go slow enough, there is little, or no compression. I'm bummed guys, I must have smoked the ring when I first attempted to break it in.[X(]
All in all though, I'm very happy with how it has flown so far. I only needed a little down elevator, and it feels like it going to be a nice "Sunday flyer". I thought I could do the conversion with the 120, and it actually turned out nice. I'm going to convert though all pushrod clevises to HD metals ones as soon as possible. In the mean time, it's going to be a tractor which will put around.
My next planes is going to be a GreatPlanes Skywalker 1/4 ARF. I think I'm ready for a low wing putter plane now......
