Default ucando 60

I posted this question in the general forum but I'll probably get a better response here.

Has anyone had to lower the fuel tank on their ucando 60 because of the inverted engine placement? I've installed an OS 91FX according to the instructions. When I fuel up the plane, the fuel constantly drips out of the carb. It's as if the tank were placed too high. Was there something in the instructions that I missed regarding tank placement?

Thanks..............Pat

Hi RCPat
I have this plane with a Saito 100. I made the mistake of not adjusting the low end needle on the carb after I inverted it in the plane from the test stand. (upright breakend). I was very dissatisfied with the performance. I cut the rear tank support out and lowered the back of the tank. After it stalled just before a low hover attempt, it ripped the firewall out when it hit the ground. While I had it apart, I lowered the firewall about 1 1/4" making the exhaust channel shallower.(not used anyway with a Saito). Lowering the tank stopped the engine from filling up with fuel and bending my spinners trying to start the engine. Fixing the low end needle makes it a great plane now. Two of my friends have a YS-91 and a OS-91 and have not lowered their tanks and they seem to run fine.

all you need to do is put the tank on the CG and buy an Iron Bay regulator. $43.00 it works great. works as a pump and a regulator. You;ll love the way it makes your engine run! And now you have the tank on the CG. don't screw around with the Cline regulator for 60 bucks

we run ours with the fx - it's a flier without any problems - yes a little fuel will drop out the carb inverted most setup's do - we run a 15x4 wood and it's the best so far.

Thanks and this does work with glow fuel right? The way they make it sound it only works with petroleum and alcohol based fuels. I didn't think glow fuel was considred petroleum or alcohol based fuel.

To the best of my knowledge, glow fuel is an alcohol based fuel.

Yep... Methyl Alcohol to be exact. Commonly known as Methanol. It is the single largest component of glow fuel. 2nd usually comes oil, and third is usually nitro methane if it is present. If it is not present, it is known at FAI fuel. Lastly, various addititves may be added to slightly change characteristics of the fuel. Coloring agent too...

I had an OS .91 in mine until recently and it flew the plane just fine, hovered fine but pulled out slow. Don't be afraid to use the .91 in yours, you'll still like the plane.

I replaced mine with a Saito 100 and it really does make a difference, vertical is much better. Pull out from a hover shouldn't be any problem with the 100.

I have an OS91FX in mine and I have to turn the plane over on its back to get it started. Then it still runs like crap. I haven't been able to set the mixtures anywhere near getting it to run reliably and consistently. And, yes, fuel does drip out of the carb after the plane is fueled as well as flooding the cylinder.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion on how to tune the 91 without the extensive mods suggested in most of the replies. "I have an OS91FX in mine and it runs fine" is not a suggestion.

HELP!!!
