Default Tower Hobbies Mustang ARF

Anyone get the Mustang ARF that was on sale? I`m almost done with mine. Lot of re-shrinking but at $99.00 shipped I couldn't pass it up. It calls for a .46, but I put my old Enya .40 from my wrecked trainer on it.

That's cool. I've been holding out for the Tower Ryan STA, but who knows if that will ever come in. Did the assembly go pretty good?

Yes, the assembly went pretty good. I had some trouble with how the wing bolts have to go through the fairing. It`s kind of difficult to get them started and wind them in to blind holes with a straight slot screwdriver. Haven`t flown her yet but hoping to this weekend.

Default Wing Bolt driver

Make yourself one of these. A small Craftsman stubby screwdriver, a strip of aluminum from a pop can, and a hot melt glue gun

Good idea! That will definitely make it easier. One other thing I wanted to mention about this ARF kit was the way the wing halves went together. I read and saw photos on another thread here about how another type of ARF plane crashed when the wing broke in half. There was a joiner piece that gets epoxied in between the front spars but there is no joiner between the rear. This wing was the same way. The OP in the other thread lamented that this was the cause of the failure, but someone pointed out that in the photos there was no evidence of any epoxy on the rear portion of the root ribs. I remember during my assembly that maybe there should have been another joiner to go between the rear spars, especially on a aerobatic capable plane like the Mustang. I`m glad I used plenty of epoxy all over the root rib area.
By the way, when I tried to get it running this weekend to fly it, I learned from another pilot that certain engines don`t like to start inverted, like my old Enya. Luckily I had brought my stand, so I flipped it over and got it running, but evidently it needs some tuning, as it kept cutting off on throttle advancement. It`s cowled up pretty tight so I`ll have to fiddle with it later. At least I was able to fly my Tiger 60.
