Default robart hinges

I'm installing 1/8 inch robart hinges on my hanger 9 P-51(20cc). the control surfaces are not solid wood. what is the minimum amount of hinge to wood contact, do I HAVE TO HAVE to not have the hinge pull out on me in the air. Does the whole hinge have to be fully inserted in the control surface and fin? thanks for the help.

I've installed them in as little as 1/4" balsa without any issues. 3/8" on 40% IMAC airplanes. I do cut some of the excess length off. The important thing is the prep. Clean them with alcohol, sand all the gloss off with 220 grit, clean again with alcohol. They need to fit tight in the holes. Use either epoxy or Gorilla glue. If using GG, it takes very little.
