The balance range for the Ultimate is 1 1/2" to 1/2" from the leading edge of the rear cabane.

even at the rear aft cg its still very flyable no bad habits as the other forwards cg will have it diving like a brick while inverted

Since we are the subject, I have a similar question. I too am putting together a DP Ultimate and am thinking of installing the fuel tank over or near the CG. Since the CG won't be changing as the fuel is consumed as it would if the tank was mounted just behind the firewall, do I need to change the location of the CG, or would the stock location be ok? Thanks

Russ

The stock C/G location will be a good starting point. You might want to allow yourself a little room to be able to slide the tank fore and aft about an inch or so. Most of the Ultimates I have flown liked the C/G more aft than forward.

Go for the 3/4" to 1/2" mark. I cut a hatch in mine to get the battery as far back in the tail as it would go. You will run out of elevator at the nose heavy cg while landing
