Just got my P-51B last night. All I can say is WOW! This thing is pretty. I have heard some good and bad things about VQ, but this is one of the best 51s I've seen yet.
The wood looks better than my VQ A-26 so maybe they are doing quality control as they go along. This is the newest model from them and I can see where they have changed a few things from earlier planes.
Here are a few of the good points that I picked out right away.
The covering is tight as can be and the graphics are better than earlier planes. It is still of a stick on type of covering but seems to be pretty tough stuff. A look inside the wing showed clean and strong looking wood with pretty good glue joints. I pulled one retract out to look at the mount and it looked strong as well. They are hardwood rails, not ply that a lot of places use.
The shape of the plane is very nice, and looks right as far as dimensions of a 51. I have not scaled it out to see how close it is yet.
The only things that are not great, but I can live with is that the glass cowl paint is not an exact match to the covering and that the tail wheel is mounted back by the rudder like all other ARF warbirds. Also I wish that it had a sheeted wing rather than built up. The fuse is fully sheeted.
I have not built this yet, but looks like it will go together well.
So far I am very happy with this plane. I hope to fly it this weekend.
