Great stuff Serge! I like the pics.

Question, they say the fuse is 62.5" long - is that the basic fuse (as it comes out of the box) or is that with the engine/spinner & rudder mounted? Trying to figure out of I can get this thing in any of our cars...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Swill,

The fuse is 62.5" long with the tail group and 47.5 " alone.

Wow Serge, you definitely put a lot of pics up on your site! My plane is coming along great - wings are joined, brackets and cabanes installed, gear is on, and tonight I installed the vertical fin and horizontal stab. I need to get some Robart hinges so I can hinge the ailerons, then it's on to installing the engine and cowl. The plane sure looks stubby compared with my Extras but it's going to look great doing smoke-on inverted passes! I also have some ideas on dressing it up with full scale decals (EAA, Lycoming, etc).

Only issue so far was the cabane struts didn't line up when I mounted them in the predrilled holes. I redrilled the front holes and now they line up well.

WOW ! Picked up and unpacked mine yesterday and drooled over it for about an hour . The covering job is amazing. Not a wrinkle in mine anywhere. The quality of all joints and wood looks amazing. Just by looking over it, you can not complain at all about the price. Let's hope it doesn't have any major issues.

Anybody knows already what size stand offs we need to order for the DA 50 and this bird ?
What color (and with what) will you guys paint the canopy interior if at all ?
Are you guys assembling step by step according to manual ?
What smoke system will you guys use ? I was thinking the Slimline Pro with 16 oz tank.

Let's keep up to date everrybody about progress and issues or corrections / improvements needed.

The engine length from firewall to backplate need to be 6.5", so you can base your standoff calculations on that. I'm going to cut some 1/2" standoffs from 1/2" dowel for my FPE 3.2. I have a TME smoke pump laying around and a 32 ounce tank, but will probably buy a 20 ounce tank for it instead. I will probably mount the fuel tank in the stock location and the smoke tank on the CG. I am not assembling the plane step by step, just going around and hitting different areas in an order that makes sense to me. One thing to remember is not to hinge the rudder and elevators until after you glue the cowl ring on.

For the canopy interior, I am probably going to paint the floor, seatback, and plastic panel with flat black, and use automotive paint that looks like fiberglass for the floor and sidewalls. I'll get a 30% pilot to fly the plane.

yeah, was thinking of painting the floor and back also with either grey or black. Not sure yet, leaning more towards grey. Maybe use some dark grey rustoleum paint.
Well, ordered my pilot yesterday from litepilots.com and went with a female one. Expensive but nice.
Take a look :

http://litepilots.com/Marilyn.htm

I choose her with a yellow shirt since I think it matches the covering better.

You guys are killing me. Mine has been in the box for a couple of weeks and I haven't even touched it yet. I think that needs to change this weekend. Thanks for getting me motivated.

What's interesting about painting the cockpit interior is when I was a fuel guy at the airport, I would regularly fill up a Christen Eagle. I noticed that the plane's interior was all flat black, and it looked just like Monokote. So I guess I am trying to make my model plane look more realistic than the real plane.

No matter what color we paint it, it is still going to look nice. The quality of this bird is just outstanding. I am very happy. Will really start the building process this weekend. Let's see how much I can advance.
So how did you guys liked my pilot choice ?
