I bought a Cox Lazy Bee. My brother was flying it and did a nose dive into the ground and broke the cowling in front. I've spent days looking for a replacement part with no luck. Does anybody know where I might find one?

Are you sure it was the Cox Lazy Bee? I thought that model was made by Clancy Aviation.
Well, if it is the Clancy Bee you can get a cowling from Hobby People. But if you have a gas motor on it, I'd just fly without the cowl, it's only good if you're using an elec motor.

Oh, why do you have "Don't Buy" on this thread? Is there some reason you don't like the Lazy Bee?
Everyone I know that has one, or had one, loves the way they fly. I got a kit for the 50" wing w/ ailerons, that I plan to build soon.
Shouldn't put don't buy on a thread without some supporting reason, or something.

It is a Cox Lazy Bee (ARF). I ordered it from ehobbies. The Cox .049 is connected to a firewall and the cowling, so it is impossible to fly without the cowling. I ordered the cowling from Hobby People and it was the wrong thing (probably for the Clancy Bee you mentioned). As for flying this plane, I loved it and have no complaints. The reason I said "Don't Buy" is because if you buy the Cox (ARF) Lazy Bee, you will not find any parts. I called Cox to order a cowling and they said they don't have parts for it any more because they recently discontinued the model.

I've seen a Cox lazy bee somewhere, so at least I can verify its existance!
Sorry to hear about your situation with it, you might want to try posting a question in the 1/2 A forum; maybe someone there might have an old one (or parts) knocking around...

that is a good post description "DON'T BUY"-if you cannot get it supported it's usually not worth what you have to pay for it. I think if more people would worn about issues of poor product or performance on everything we buy this would be a better hobby than it is already. Nothing more frustrating than spending hard earn money on something that does no deliver.

It seems ugly at first, but it you look at it for a while it really starts to grow on you.

Kind of looks like a tug boat with wings, and your right kind of grows on ya. Have you considered making a cowel out of balsa, or foam, don't look like it would be too hard.

Well, if it's discontinued, then I can't buy it
Shucky darn!
That plane looks like it came out of a cartoon, some big puppy dog eyes would help
It really doesn't say "Masculine" does it?
Bringing that plane to a 3D rally would be like taking a moped to a Harley convention.

So is this a knock-off of the Clancy Lazy Bee or did Andy give his blessing?

IIRC World Models was producing a knockoff for a while until the cease-and-desist order showed up. They called it the Panda Fly or something similar...

I used epoxy on the bigger pieces and it seems to be incredibly strong so I think that will work for the rest of it too.
Thanks everybody for the input.
