Well, I finally broke down and got one of these. It's a beautiful kit and the quality of the construction is very good. I had decided to use an OS.46FX and quickly found out that even though the advertisement lists two strokes as a option the plane requires modifications to accommodate the two stroke.
A. The throttle linkage if kept in line with the carb interferes with the tank setup. Also, if you use a 2 stroke it is best to move the throttle servo over to the opposite side of the fuse to lessen the tank positioning problem. I also switched from the rigid throttle rod to Du-Bro cable, much much smoother.
B. The stock muffler could be used but will require a cut out to be done to allow the rear portion of the muffler to clear the section just below and to the rear of the firewall. A good option ( which I opted for) is to install a Pitts style muffler.
C. The engine is tightly cowled in and without modifying, the cowl would generate over heating problems. I opened the front of the cowl by using my dremel to open the three openings into one larger opening while still retaining the aesthetics of the cowl.
D. The landing gear plate looks rather flimsy so a little beefing up is called for. I am still using the metal landing gear retaining screws.
E. I mounted a Du-Bro fuel filler to make fueling much easier.
Everything else looks like it will be pretty much stock. One last thing, with several people having problems with the axles I made sure to check mine too before installing them. They seem solid enough and I could not get them to budge by tapping on them with a punch.
Happy Flying!
