I was considering an 16 x 8 prop for the 150. Would that be a good choice for hovering and recovery (when needed). I haven't received plane yet, so still have time for decisions.

That is what I'm using on my 150 and it works very well.I'm using the apc prop but will try a wood one later.I am running it on 15% morgan full syntetic.Saito says not to use caster(I guess because of carbon build up).Funny my new magnum 91 manuel says to use some caster no matter what.

Most people use the APC 16-8 on this plane, I have the same setup 150 saito on DP Ultimate.
I use the APC 17-6. I like the longer blades with less pitch. Especially for slow flight. It harriers great and will torgue roll fast and easy.

If you already have the 150 stay with it. This is a very light plane and should come out to around 10 to 10 1/2 pounds. Use a 17x6 APC and go have fun. Vertical should be unlimited at that weight. If you want more try 30% heli fuel. Do not worry it will not hurt the engine because of the increase percentage of oil (23%). Satios love it!

I don't already have a 150......should I buy the 180? I am trying to consider fuel consumption and vibration as well as power.
Thanks very much sport10!

I am flying that plane with a 150 and YS 20/20. 16/8 seems to be the prop it likes. You will have to modify the firewall to get the muffler to work on the 150 or 180, or go with a Pitts style. Since you do not have the engine and if monetarily you are set get the 180.

I would get the 180 if you did not already have the 150. I still recommend the 17x6 apc over the 16x8 apc. Props with larger blades and less pitch seem to be better for 3D. They provide better braking and more thrust.

I read the review of modifying firewall for the Saito 150. I was considering getting the extension/muffler as shown on the Saitos website. It is flexible and am hoping it can snake around the firewall. Anyone tried that yet?

I just used a hole saw and made the cut, then fabricated a new bottom using ply and fiberglass. It worked like a charm. I have not tried the extension but from what I have heard it does not work well keeps coming louse.

If you want very unlimited power and use less fuel go with a OS 160 with a bison muffler. It will hover at 1/2 throttle and the 160 has excellent running quality. If you want a slightly used one(about a gallon of fuel)e-mail me.A guy in our club wants to sell his because the big planes hurt to much when they crash(the wallet that is)His new sukhoi and new 160 had a farming accident but the engine took no damage( 8th flight)

Trust me ... SPOCK is right on with engine and prop combination ...
I tend to think the 180 may be a tad much for the ultimate ... Spock's plane has unlimited vertical and will do every maneur in the book ... yes pun intended for the pilot's reading pleasure.
I know ... I have flown an ultimate and seen his fly on several outtings ... the plane likes a 150 w/16x8
now maybe a 180 with a 3 blade prop ... humm ...
