Been flying my LT-40, and loving every minute. However, the last day I was out, upon post-flight inspection, I noticed that one of the four hinges on the elevator had severed. It was the inboard on the port side. So, I sealed that hinge area, as well as the other three, checked the elevator for security, and flew her again. It worked fine. I intend to seal the entire elevator control surface gap before my next flight. My question is this. Should I be worried about losing the elevator? There's still three hinges holding it very securely, and there will be a tape seal all along the elevator. I don't see how I could lose it. I just don't know how I could replace that hinge without taking the whole elevator off, and I already had to do that during the build because of some snap in the elevator, so there's not much more room to make a new slot. Should I be concerned here? - Spool[8D]

If one hinge broke, the others may not be far behind. I would cut the rest and replace them. Even though the surface feels secure, the one missing hinge might allow more flutter of the control surface, leading to quicker failure of the other hinges. I don't know if you can cut new slots in the same place the old hinges were due to the hardness of the plastic hinge material. If you don't have room to put the new hinges beside the old hinge locations, you may have to switch to a different style of hinge, like a Robart Hinge Point or other similar type. This would allow you to drill a hole in the old hinge location (use the Robart drill guide to keep it centered).
If you are set on replacing them using CA hinges again, perhaps you could cut new slots directly on top of (or below) the old hinge line. Obviously this would slightly change the pivot point of the control surface, but it should work fine.

Here's how you replace ca hinges with Robarts :

Did you check for any control surface binding in your elevator throughout the full throw ?
