I saw this exact combination fly well at our flying field. We are in New Jersey, basically at sea level. The plane was taking its maiden flight and did not have the cowl on at the time. Vertical was good as I recall, and most common aerobatics were performed with no problem. That Tower 75 is a strong running engine. [8D]

I had a 61 2 stroke on my UCD 46, it flew it ok but no great shakes and verticle was not very good. I replaced it with a Mag 91 FS and never looked back. If you like 2 stroke power spend a little more and buy the new Mag. 91 it is light and very strong. I fly at about 2400 feet. Good luck.

I have a Tower .75 mounted on my UCD60, but I haven't gotten around to finish it yet. The Tower muffler acts almost like a mini tuned pipe and allows the .75 to breath well and make power. I don't doubt that it will hover it fine - just not at 1/3 throttle like folks who put other monster power plants on their UCD60.
I went with the Tower 75 because I have a whole lot of .75 2strokes lying around, so I picked the strongest one. This plane is built light and so I want to keep it flying light. I'm usually all for overpowering, but I read several folks having airframe structural problems with overpowering their UCD60. If you haven't bought the engine yet, he Magnum XLS .91 stroke is also a good choice, especially if you catch it on sale. I would NOT go any larger than .91 2 or 4 stroke.

I love the way you mounted that engine that way Volfy. Do you have any pictures of it with the cowl on? Does mounting the engine that way have any affect on the way it balances side to side? I too have the Tower .75 in my .60 UCD and think it flies awesome!! Also,, what prop do you use with your .75?

Glad you like it. I doubt mounting it this way affects lateral balance any more than upright or inverted with the muffler hanging out to one side. The moment arm of the cylinder head CG is so close to the centerline that it would take very little weight on the opposite wing to counter it. I much prefer mounting 2stroke glow engines this way to inverted. Less likelihood of hydrolock, and the carb stays closer to center of fuel tank.
The UCD60 project is sidelined for the time being. Haven't cut the cowl yet. Got too many newer ARFs to play with.
Besides, I flew a Razzle 3D with an MDS .78 for a while as a practice plane for maybe learning a few beginning 3D moves before graduating to the larger UCD60. The MDS ran great, but I didn't find playing with 3D all that much fun. So finishing off the UCD60 kinda lost the momentum, though I'm sure I'll finish it off eventually.

Any updates on the UCD Volfy? If so what prop you running? Been running a 12x6 on my Tower .75 and have been pleased with its performance. I just doesnt climb or hover too well. Putting on a 13x6 sport prop and going to see how it does with that.

Sorry but the UCD is still sidelined. I keep buying new ARFs before I finish existing projects. Just got a FuntanaS 90, for example.
Anyhow, I've got the hinge lines sealed and the servos mounted, so all there is left to do is RX + batt + switch. I bought some APC Fun Fly props - 15x4W and 14x4W, IIRC. You really need a large diameter low pitch wide prop to do 3D well. 12x6 is too small for a .75 2stroke. 13x6 is what I use for regular sport flying. Still, it's not a good choice if you want high thrust at slow speeds. I don't know if the Tower .75 will swing the 15x4W, but for sure the 14x4W should be fine.
