Here is what I would do,
first off figure the distance that you need your cowling to extend in front of the firewall.
Then mount the cowling so that it looks correct on the fuse. (considering any right thrust)
center up the engine inside the cowling drop a little ca on the mount and thats where I would drill the holes.
.
for really accurate centering put a prop on the shaft and measure it to be equal all quadrants.

Hey bud I just signed up to this forum thing to help you out. (I hope) First I am currently installing the engine in my texan right know so I hope that the specs I give you will help. First you must remember that the engine mount holes are at a 45 degree angle to the planes vertical center line. Well here is what I measured off my ARF .60 Texan. Well all of these measurments are taken from the forward looking aft viewpoint. From the top measure down exacly 3.2''. Then Measure from your right (the planes left side) in again 3.2''. If you want the measurment from the left side (the planes right side) it would be 3.55''. And lastly, the measurment that I got from the bottom up is 3.75''. These should get you right on the spot. I hope they help. Dave

How good are you geometry and trigonmetry? Draw three chords across from the vertices created by the intersecting chords, construct median lines to the opposite mid-point and there is your exact center. Construct an angle 45 degrees to the veritcal. Now using TOA, distance moved down from center is equal to the distance from the firewall times the tangent of down thrust angle and same for the distance to the left of center. These calculations will place the prop shaft directly in the center of your cowling prop hole.
