Steve, I built one about a month a ago with a Saito 100 up front. Without the cowl on I was able to balance at the 6" mark with the battery jsut in front of the servos tray.

Mine with a Saito .91 balances at the 6" mark. I originally mounted the rudder servo at the back of the wing opening and used pull pulls. It required quite a bit of down while inverted to keep level. Added 2oz to the tail and it flew hands off inverted. So, I moved the servo back to the tail. This thing has a really wide CG range. 6" CG should be easy to do with the OS 70.

How profound. I was looking for some real-world feed-back...
Many thanks to the rest of you. Where to locate the rudder servo was the REAL question lurking in the background...
Moot point, as it turned out. A CG Matrix just followed me back to the office.

I wasn't trying to be glib. The review covers the CG issues with a OS 70 in a extensive manner. What is considered tail heavy for this plane is more of a preference than an specific measurement.

I did read it. And I wasn't sure whether the author was being truthful, or saying, in another way, "This pig is tail heavy". There were several complaints of this on the other thread; enough to make me wonder.
While RCM has gotten more believable lately (as in, actually printing some information with a negative connotation), the advertising dollar is still the altar at which they worship. And The Empire is one of their largest repeat clients. Nobody can beat the spin doctors at Horizon, but Great Planes/ Hobbico/et.al. spend major bucks at RCM.
Anyway, guess I took your comment wrong. Sorry...

Your reaction was not completely unwarranted, I could have made a better effort initally.
Please keep us updated on the Matrix. I am looking for a plane worthy of my great running little OS 70 .

Yeah, I've got a '92 vintage 70 Surpass that will go in in the Matrix. Trying to figure out now which on-board glow system to use.
CCRC1 got the kit for Xmas, so I suppose he'll be posting about his experience with it too in the appropriate thread. So far, I am rather impressed with it. We'll see..
