ARF Ultimate Bipe, .40, Does this Exist?
Will it 3D? Can I put a .60 or above 4-stroke on it?
Will it be a first Taildragger 3rd plane?
How much is it?

Dave Patrick had a 46 size. I think it has been discontinued. From what I read, it was a superb flyer in every respect. Perhaps too much for a second plane.

I'm really interested in bipes too. But I don't think they are good 3rd planes or 1st tail draggers. They tend to be kind of less stable on take offs and landings. Especially the ones under 60 size. If anyone could recommend a good quality 40 bipe that's takes off stable, floats in nicely, isn't too expensive, and doesn't snap in turns I'd be interested too. $200 is about the max I'd want to spend and it's probably not enough for what I'd want.
The DP 40 was about $400 (can't get them from him anymore). The Goldberg 60 is about $330. Kyosho is about $230 to $260 depending which one. These are all expensive planes for me ( = big crashorama trauma). There's a Kyosho reviewed recently by RCU. Check it out.

Actually the DP 40 size was about $250. I say was because they don't make them anymore. I have one and it is a very nice flier, very stable on take off and landings and very positive ground control. It is not a 2nd plane and may be pushing it for a 3rd plane depending on your flying experience. I have a saito .72 on mine and it weighs 5lbs 3oz. It has unlimited vertical. It flys very nice aerobatic maneuvers and will even 3d to some extent (although it is not a fun fly). It will harrier, hover, torque roll, blender ect ect... I have not been able to get it to waterfall. I'm sure mostly due to my control throws on my elevator. You can only get so much without modifying the stab which isn't double beveled. The plane will snap on certain maneuvers with full up elevator. It is not a floater. It needs power and prop wash over the control surfaces to keep flying. It does look great in the air. I really enjoy flying it. I think world models makes a 40 size ultimate that is pretty close to the same size as the DP.

I have the Global .46 Ultimate Arf and it is great! A few winkles in the covering but flies "like it's on rails". Easy on take off if you lift the tail then rotate. Great roll rate and will knife edge all day long. I'm running a ST.45 and 11-6 mas so no unlimited vertical but very close. Stalls tend to drop a wing tip but softly. Landing are uneventful. This not a good choice for second plane but possibly a third depending on your experience.

I like my World Models Ultimate 30. Still $150. I've had mine about 3 years. There are minor issues with it, like the gear is soft and the upper wing mounting should be reinforced before flying. Otherwise I love it.
Mine has a .52 Magnum 4stroke, and has lots of vertical. I don't hover it, but I can hang it on the prop for several seconds. I think the Magnum .61 4stroke is the same size as the .52, might be 3D capable.
Just my two cents worth. Good luck,
Dave Olson

2alpha, It's acotually gonna be my second, but since I will be training on a Tiger II, then converting it into taildragger, I think it can be kinda considered my 3rd.

I say "flew" because its down for repairs. Really minor repairs - I fractured the top-front-center interplane strut fitting - probably due to practicing one full-throttle blender too many.
Haven't had any luck getting a replacement fitting.
Really chaps my hide that such a pretty plane sits sidelined because of a $0.10 part

Anybody got some spares?
