Midget Mustang

I have one and it is about nicest flying model I have owned. I to was worried about tip stall, however I have never had one occur.
Very nicely built and easy to assemble. Excellent scale outline and you get what you pay for. Comes with spinner, tank, wheels and engine mount.

Engine
O.S. 91 Surpass inverted so has not to have to cut the cowling.

Additional Re-enforcement/Support
I fiberglassed the center section of the wing just for extra strength.
Bent up my own gear out of music wire and then enealed in the oven for rigidity

I also detailed out the cockpit with instruments and painted interior and pilot. Mines the tiger strip and I painted and covered the bottom of the plane in white make it look more like the reall Midget Mustang it was modeled after.

I'd buy another one if I had to replace it some day (Knocking on wood right now).

Although my feedback will not help much, I have one that has been assembled, mounted a O.S. 91fx on it, but never has been flown. I built a G.P. Extra .60 and mounted the same engine on it, and was just more intrigued by it. If you have any interest in this one great, if not that's fine to. The only potential negative is, I cut the cowl to allow for the .91 to fit. This plane has the White with Dark blue trim.
Thanks and good luck!
P.S. I will say the W.Models P-51 I have flys great!

Landings

This plane is slippery and does take a while to slow down, but is very docile at slow speeds. It ain't no trainer! But a very easy plane to fly.

This is one of the best flying airplanes I have ever owned. I've had 2 during the past 4 years and only sell them when I move-I used to move a lot while in the Army.

Here is what I powered mine with:

1st one: MDS .68 A great powerplant for 99 bucks. With an 11x8 prop runnign 15% nitro, this puppy HAULS. If you want a little less speed a 12x6 APC works great with this engine.

2nd one: My favorite setup was a Thunder Tiger .91 4 stroke. This engine would spin the 14x6 APC prop about 10,500 rpm and gave it plenty of power and speed. For insane speed, a 13x10 APC will push this plane to the edge of my comfort zone.

Each airplane needed no trim adjustments during its first flight. Airplane almost flies hands off! Landings are a little faster than average but flaperons help a bit.

Oh almost forgot, get the yellow colored airplane. The white airplane is very hard to see when flying. A fast plane should be easy to since it can get out of sight fairly quick.

Slippery=low drag

Certain planes are very clean aerodynamically and don't have much drag. When and if you every fly a biplane or a plane that's has a large cross section that strikes the wind, you'll notice that when you cut the power the plane slows down in a hurry. The Midget Mustang was designed as a Post World War II racer. It's still available as a full-size kit built plane.

When you go to land this plane just make a nice descending approach with a slightly nose low attitude. As you get close to the ground start your flair with a slightly noise high attitude to bleed off your speed. You'll eventually teach yourself to either wheel land this plane or three point land it. Either landings are very eaisly done.

I had the white one. Added neon red stripes between the blue. Looked great. Had a OS 61 on a pipe in it. Was very stable at all speeds. Never tip stalled and for landing, came in at slow-medium speed. Great airplane!!!!!(but then again all the World models planes I've flown have beed great!)

I have had 2 MM's both with OS 1.08 and I really do like this p[lane. It is a go fast turn left type of plane and it does that extremely well. It does the flattest slowest inverted flat spin of any plane I have ever owned. It tracks a lot better than I thought it would and handles larger engines just fine...plenty of cowl to work with. I will get another someday because it is a good plane and landings were a tad hot but I always had a little to much motor in mine. It would fly real well on a good .60 all the way to a 1.20 FS. Both of mine were strong and built pretty dang good, covering was as good as anything out there. I let quite a few buddies fly it and they liked the way it flew.
I never had it tip stall on landing even when I was milking it out ...it just settled right in the grove.
I will own another MM someday...I miss it[&o]

One of the tricks to landing this plane is to make lower than normal approaches. It is a very nice plane to assemble. I recommend .90 size two stroke with a pitts underneath or a Saito 100.

The WM little P-51 with a 61 2 stroke or Saito .91 will be an impressive hauler also.

I built, and still own, the actual Midget Mustang that the white WM version was modeled after. Yes, it is a VERY slippery airplane (the real one, that is). I use it primarily for aerobatics. World Models gave me one of the ARF models a few years ago. I was not into RC at the time (although I had always wanted to), and put it in the closet. I recently bought a Nexstar trainer, and am going to (try) to learn how to fly the RC planes. After I get MANY hours on the Nexstar, I'll try the Midget Mustang. Here's a picture of the real plane. You will notice that they decided to use blue trim instead of the red that I used.

I thought that was the real MM in the picture...they should have done the red...it looks really nice...I have owned 2 Wm MM's and loved both of them...you can tell when flying it that it makes a really good "Go Fast..Turn Left" type plane. It does the coolest inverted flat spin of any plane I have ever flown. I will get another someday and recover it in Metallic Red , Metallic Gold and Yellow. The plane is a very honest flyer and I am sure you will love flying it...I will own another Midget Mustang someday soon.

Read the post... "Here's a picture of the real plane"... it is the real plane.

Anyone have any comparisons between the Midget Mustang and the Great Planes Shoestring. I'm looking at the two and haven't quite made up my mind yet as to which I want to get. I'd be powering it with either a TT .91 or the Saito 1.00 depending on what I can find (on ebay or the marketplace here)

Also, anyone have any leads on where to get the Midget Mustang? I was recently told it is no longer made, I've done a search of ebay with no luck so far.

Is RTF minus your rcvr.-Engine is a ASP 108..Really hauls the mail, they fly as great as everyone on here says they do.MM's will fly very slow ,they are easy to land.
