New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
Just got a new Hanger 9 Super Cub and i'm concerned about it getting to dirty being the type covering it is and also primarily being white in color. The rep at Horizion said he had heard of some people using Scotch Guard....just wondering if anyone has tried this ? Don't won't to spray a clear coat on because they have a tendency to yellow after a while..

RE: New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
I'm going to put the same Saito 150 that was in my Hanger 9 J3...good combo. I experimented with the Scotch Guard yesterday by spraying a small section under one of the wings and after it dried I couldn't tell where I had sprayed but it did seem protected somewhat. I guess time will tell and it doesn't seem to be harmful to the fabric and I don't guess it will yellow.

RE: New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
Will do P-51B....I ran my hand over the part that I test sprayed yesterday and you couldn't tell that I had sprayed it except when I ran my hand over it, it felt really slick with no residue at all. I think this might do the trick...only time will tell I guess. I don't think it will add any weight at all or if it did it would be not enough to notice. Probably the biggest concern is what effect if any the glow residue will have on it??

RE: New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
Well, I think I have good news about the Scotch Guard...the weather finally gave in and I was able to fly the Super Cub and it seems the Scotch Guard is doing the job. Even under the fuse where the exhaust exits seems to wipe right off with no staining.
As to how long this will last is another question and it may be that I have to reapply it on the bottom a little more often than other parts of the plane but for now it seems to be working with no ill effects...i'll keep you posted!!

Great! I might still guard mine even though it is a little stained. At least it will keep it from getting any worse. Thanks for the update

1- Dark oil stains can be removed from fabric cobering by spraying WD-40 on the stains and rubbing with a soft cloth.
2- Now, you have to take to oil off the fabric. Use rubbing alcohol or a commercial window cleaner.
NOW, you can use Scotch Gard, or whatever else to seal the fabric so you don't have to steps 1 and 2 again.

Be careful with scotch guard. If it prevents dirt , grime and stains from sticking to your fabric it may just as well seep under seams and unstick your covering along edges and overlaps.

RE: New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
Mar345, thats an interesting point you make but that hasn't happened yet and i've had it on there for over a month now. That's not to say it won't happen though, but I see no evidence of it.
Update....I keep getting it dirty and it cleans right up!! Even where the fuel residue from the Saito 150 exits the bottom and coats the fuse wipes right off and leaves no stain at all...i'm impressed with the Scotch Guard. I've seen no ill effects from using this product at all and it's really doing the job. Just thought you guys might want to know.

Lee, I think you would be ok if you thoroughly cleaned the plane with a storng cleaner of some sort and then gave it a final rubdown with rubbing alcohol. A flying buddy of mine cleaned a really dirty cub with acetone last year...(maybe be a little cautious here and test it under the wing or something) and then apply your Scotch Guard. Let me know how you come out.....Dave

RE: New Super Cub and Scotch Guard?
Scotch Guard seems to be the way to go ... but, if I need to repair the covering will it keep a fabric patch from sticking over the repaired area? Would the Scotch guard have to be removed and what will remove it without harming the finish ?
