I'm really thinking hard about the above combination. I already have the engine and am just about to buy the cap.
Any comments/thoughts/concerns/suggestions?
(I do have a in-fuse muffler, but figure i'll have to get a pitts style to use on the cap.)

David, you wouldn't be the first, its a very good combination.
I know because I have done a lot of those standoff's for that very combo.

I have the exact setup and I love it. What a combo - light and powerfull. The plane is a joy to fly. I'm not into the 3D yet, but it's very capable. Maybe I'll catch up to it this summer. Really is easy to land.

Yes this is beter then a DA 100 for this reson. IT IS LITTER thats all, plus it has unlimited vert. and thats what its all about.
We think that it traks beter for IMAC then if it had the DA100, it just flys beter thats all with zdz 80.

any thoughts on balance?
am I going to be tail heavy with the ZDZ engine?
should I put the rudder servos mid-ships with pull pull, or at the tail as per the instructions?
Thanks, David

Mine is exactly as planned and I was able to balance using the batteries. (4) Hitec Digitals in the tail , (4) Jr's in the wings, (1) Standard on throttle and (1) mini on the choke, (2) Nimh's (1650ma) for receiver, and (1) Nicad (1450ma) for ignition. I am nose heavy now but it really flies nice that way, I'll start playing with the CG in the future.

CAP and ZDZ 80
Hi David,
I have this combination. It is great. I also have a set of standoffs from Aerografixs and fiber optics. My plane weighs between 23 and 23˝lbs. I used dual receivers and LI batteries. I mounted the fuel tank over the wing tube and ended up putting the receiver batteries in front of the tube for a CG in the middle of what was recommended. Here is a link at my website, take a look, I think you will like what you see. I also powered the throttle servo from the ignition battery.
Thanks to JB (helped me with his website)
Thanks Roger ( for standoff and some of the optics)

I looked again at your installation, and I think its one the nicest I have seen. Maybe I should send you my airplanes for electronic fitting
As for gluing the components, I simply glue everything on the circuit board to be Bazooka proof......

Hey Thanks Roger,
I have you to thank for a lot of it. If it were not for your standoffs and optic setup It wouldn't have come out as nice. I especially like being able to connect the throttle servo to the ignition battery allowing me to place the throttle servo close to the engine. This also allowed me to use the titanium prolink for the throttle. I am not thrilled how the throttle and chokes are done on the ZDZ engines but with a little thought I was able to come up with what I thought was a good connection with very little play. I also would have mounted batteries in the tail to power the servos in the tail but didn't think I could stand the weight in the tail especially since I split the supply to the rear board. I certainly have to give a thumbs up to the optics, I have the sonic muffler but didn't safety wire the bolts on the muffler. I lost one of the bolts on the 4th flight and had no interference as a result. I now have the muffler bolts held in place with safety wire and no more problems with them coming loose. I like the super sonic muffler that RCS is selling with their engines. I also have a JA muffler and it is a little harder to use safety wire on it. You have to use a spacer and new bolts to get the head of the bolts out of the recess to be able to wire them. I got the tip from JB on covering the firewall, it is very time consuming to do. I might add that it took me a lot longer than the suggested 18 hrs. to complete this ARF. I will also go back and glue the resistors in place on the boards. Thanks
