I have a Freestyle that has been lying around because all I had to put in it was a Magnum .52 XLS which flew fine, but was underpowered for the plane's real potential. I have an OS .91 FS on another plane that is also underpowered. Thinking about putting the .91 on the Freestyle. Does anyone fly this plane and how big is the engine you have on it? I'd like to know how high I could go. I'm thinking that something like a Saito .72 is as big as I can get, but I'm not sure. Thanks, in advance, for the replies.

I've seen one fly with the 72...seemed to do well. search the 3D section with "freestyle" or for user Abraxxas, he has one with an OS.91FS. mine is still in a box... I really need too crash something so I can put it together I'll probably go with the Saito 72

The plane is big enough for a 91, you may have to pin the firewall.

Curious, mine with a ys 63 can do everything in the book (not me, the plane), except waterfalls (look funky). What issues did you have with the 52???

A ys .63 has a lot more power than a .52 from Magnum. I couldn't get unlimited vert, and it won't harrier. I can't flat spin, I know thats not because of the power issue, but I still couldn't do it. I mainly want to hover with this plane and I know .91 is more than enough, but that's what I have available at this point in time.

Mine has a YS63 (4 stroke) and does virtually every vertical manuever imaginable with a 13x6 APC.

The Magnum 52 "XLS" is a 2 stroke. You aren't referring the the Magnum 52 RFS 4 stroke are you? I have both. The 4 stroke 52 is a very good engine but will not be enough power for this plane.

The 52 XLS (2 stroke), when broken in and running 15% 80/20 mix has similar power to the OS 50. Dumb question, but what prop are you using? If hovering and vertical manuevers are your main quest, you will want a larger diameter prop with lower pitch. Along the lines of a 12x4 or 13x4 possibly. You should be getting over 13,500 rpm on the 12x4.
