I am planning on buying a Sig Cap 231EX and powering it with a O.S. 1.60FX. Anyone have this combo? Good, bad? This plane looks like a real nice ARF! I am new to this type of flying but think this will be a good setup. Any info will be very helpful.
Thanks,
Tony Gagliardi Jr.

Posted a reply in the 3d and pattern section. No need to start a thread in all the sections one is good enough. You'll like the plane it's a great flyer.

Hey Slow Rollin',
in your earlier thread, you mentioned how well the 231 flew.
have you tried any 3D yet? (you had not done any in the earlier post)
I am purchasing a 231Ex from a gentleman here on RCU, so of course NOW I want to learn all I can about it!
Would like to hear any/all comments you guys have.
Thanks!!

No 3D yet. I just put flights 3&4 on it this evening. EVREYTHING on the plane is brand new, and the engine is still breaking in, so I'm taking it easy. I'm pretty conservative with new planes, so exploring the full flight envelope will take me a while. Everything is holding together though, so this coming weekend I should be able to try some parachutes, blenders and so forth. I'm real hit and miss on torque rolling still, and the CG needs moved aft a little.
So far though my point rolls look 100% better, 'cause it stops when you tell it to, and doesn't wander around all over the place. I can't believe how precise this thing is...AWESOME!
Use good servos(Fut 9402, JR 8411..etc), and if you don't like it, you may be incapable of being satisfied.

I did a search on the Sig Cap. I found a few people who said the O.S. 1.60FX was a little to much engine for this airplane. I am new to aerobatic flying and eventually would like to try some 3D stuff once I get good enough. Would a Moki 1.35 be enough or maybe a YS 1.20FZ? I just don't want a plane that is ridiculously overpowered. I really just want to do all the basic aerobatics and maybe get into a little 3D.
Thanks,
Tony

There is no way that an OS 160 is too much power. It's perfect. It will sit in place at idle, and no weight is required to balance the plane. My battery pack is sitting right on top of the landing gear.
Yes, if you put an 18X12 on it, it will surely have the ability to go faster than it should in level flight. But this, friends an neighbors, is why the good Lord created the throttle stick.
If you want enough power to get out of trouble in a low alt., stalled maneuver, get the 160.

I've flown with a TT 1.20 in this aircraft going on three seasons.
I do not fly 3D but the plane will almost fly out of sight at full power vertically. I have to fly at a low throttle setting then pull to idle to keep the aircraft at a decently low altitude to do a tail slide.
The ailerons were rebuilt to save weight. The airframe is extremely light to begin with.
This plane has been a real confidence booster for me. It will make you look good.
