Default A great day flying w/ pics

My son went out and flew. It wasn't the typical "great" day. It was misting rain off and on, but NO wind. We take any "good" day we can and fly We set up under the pavilion, and had a blast....

Hi,

Tell us about the planes... mfr, kit or ARF (cub), how they fly, etc.

Sorry

left to right

Hanger 9 T-34 Mentor ARF w/ Saito 72 4 stroke and retracts. It flies the best of the 3. Powerful and steady. Takeoffs are long and scale. The landings are a little hot, but not bad....very steady and control is good right down to the ground. Flies great at half throttle. At WOT it roars by at a great speed. You can slow this plane down nicely for a slow flyby too...

Hobbico NexStar. It flys good. It is my sons trainer, and we have turned off the AFS. It worked ok on cloudy days, but sunny days it would trim it to fly to the sun. It slows down to a crawl on landings. My son is 8 and has taken off and landed it with no problems. His only skill lacking is setting up a good approach. That is what we are currently working on.

Hanger 9 80" cub ARF. Has a Magnum 61 4 stroke in it. Plenty of power for emergency and will do flybys @ 1/4. A little scary on takeoffs, you REALLY need to pay attention. Up elevator to hold the tail down, but don't hold it too long or the plane JUMPS into the air....brrrr. Landings are a breeze except sometimes its a little hard to get the darn thing to come down...it will literally float all the way across the field.

Hi Jess,

Thanks for the info - your planes look good. I am just completing a GP J3 Cub ARF- I will have it flying in the spring. My son is 8 also and I just picked up a buddy box to train him. He tried to learn with me behind his back but it did not work all that well. He is learning on a Hobbico Super Star 40 (same plane I learned on).

Regards,

Steve

You should be happy it's only misting there. It's snowing here now and they are forecasting 8" to 14" of the white stuff for tonight and tomorrow.

Spring may be this Saturday but it will be a while befroe I'm flying []

Sorry to hear that...I know I shouldn't complain too much since we have a lot of days year round to fly. Alittle windy today but hopefully my son and I can hit the field tomorrow! Hope your weather clears up! I have heard the northeast has been hammered all winter [&:]
