Default another SS 40 question

I noticed the holes for the engine mounts in my shiny new Super Sports 40 were not centered. Is this normal? Dosen't seem right to me, but the instructions are a little spotty, and don't give any indication if the engine is supposed to have off-center thrust.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

The engine mounting holes are usually offset to the left about 1/8 of an inch. The offset corrects the right thrust that should be built into the firewall such that the prop is centered. If yours is like this then it is normal...

Went down and checked mine in the basement, never noticed it before, but mine is the same way. Maybe it's to offset the rotational pull of the engine. The motor mount on mine is slotted some for horizonal shift which helps it a little. Mine balanced as built without adding any wieght to either wing tip. It's a great plane, hope you have fun with it. Dan

I just stuck motor mounts on it and ran nose gear thru mounts. Looks like it's straight, so I guess the holes are OK.... although the nose gear seems to turn kind of tight. I really hate the cheesey instruction sheet....

It's correct... it compensates for the firewall right thrust angle and allows the prop shaft to end up centered.

The SS 40 is a fun airplane! I think it's a great deal for a hundred bucks. I have a Super Tigre .51 in mine and it really honks.

I hope you have as much fun with yours,
Bob Scott
