Yes the Saito 100 will drop right in. The YS 110 shouldnt be touch to install either and sould bea great combo in the Funtana. The Saito 100 IMHO is an excellent choice. Keeps it very light (and thats important!) as opposed to trying to overpower it w/ a large engine and adding weight.

Thanks, I thought it was a version of FA-100.

By the way, I've oredered Saito 100 and Funtana 90 last week. Horizon said Funtana 90 will be in by the end of May. I hope the date stands.

Thanks Mike!! Appreciate the input..Do you feel you can get good performance with 15% and the 100 or do you have to go with higher nitro?

I already have the motor and the servos, I think I may put a 5975 on the rudder. Where is Eagle Wis? Is it near Eagle River?

Saito 100- I usually run 30% nitro in all of my 4-strokes, and thats what I ran in the 100 in the Funtana.

Size- Someone mentioned that this is similar to the kit Desert sells. Actualy that is Sebastiano's original Funtana which is a 2m model for typical pattern setups. Seba was running a YS 140DZ in that for a while. Currently I believe hes gone ep with it and is using a HAcker C50XL setup.
Our Funtana 90 is smaller than that. Its sized for 90-100 4-strokes. I like the Saito 100. Seba (who worked with us on the Funtana 40 and 90 development) has been running the YS110 in his. His comments after flying the final version of the 90 was that t flew better than his original 2m model.

Funtana vs Katana. Not really a clean comparison. The Funtana is based on Seba's TOC Katana, but changed in many ways to make it lighter loaded and better 3D. Its not a scale Katana and isnt within any 10% deviation rule. BTW, Seba's TOC Katana takes the 10% deviation rule to the limits (have you ever seen a full scale Katana?). Basically, the Funtana is optimized for flight performance w/o any consideration to staying within and scale deviation limits.

I've got a YS 1.20 AC looking for a new home, and some 9204 Futaba's to go with it... I've the Funtana .40 with an OS .46, and have loved very minute of it.

Does anyone know if the new plane has that same wing with the 14% root and 20% tips? It'd be nice if they slimmed down the tips a bit to prevent the wing from dropping on final....

It does have the same constant thickness as the 40. However, its slow speed handeling is really great.

Phil- the wingloading really means a lot more than the airfoil shape on that size/shape model.
In a nutshell -- the thicker the airfoil - the less pitch sensitive it will be .
BUT potential MAX lift at lower AOA is less.
The world consists of two basic airfoils:
1- simply a cylinder -- lousy lift but totally insensitive to angle of attack.
2 -A flat plate - incredibly good at very low angles for lift - but extra sensitive to angles of attack.
Best bet?
the flat plat -if you can make it light enough - which you can't --except for the little foam electrics.
So the fast fix for any "stall and fall "problem -- lighten it up .
sorry , I have no formulas or text book obscurities to "prove" this.
It does work tho----

rc sport-- I knew you would know where L Geneva was. haha.

That is cool, Do you want to buy a GP UCANDU with Magnum .91 2stroke? $225 Have to ask. I don't want to ship it. I need the radio gear for the Funtana.

Here is my web site. www.mikerc.com

Thanks MikeM. I have the habit of bring my planes in at a literal crawl, and sometimes I drop the tip on my Funtana, because I do get it so slow, and the CG is way back there. It doesn't bother me much, because I know it's my own doing, and not the plane's.

At 8 lbs. or so, the 90 size should have an even lighter loading than the 40 size, which will be really cool.

Dick, I agree with you 100%, as my own experiences have proven that out.

Bigger and lighter always flies better...

Mike,

I really enjoyed your article that you had on Horizon's site regarding 3D flying with the Funtana. It's helped me with my efforts to advance in 3D flying. But not enough.

I hope you have another section regarding the up-sized Funtana. What I'd really like to see is the "CORRECT" way to set up this airplane showing the throws, the expo's, the mixes etc. I've been told by people to "set up" and "fly what's comfortable to you", but, when you're just starting out in 3D, nothing is comfortable and you're always guessing. I know for me that a detailed setup tutorial video would certainly help me improve quicker. Heck, the more maneuvers I'd try, the more I'd crash, the more airplanes I'd order and the more $$$ Horizon would make.

I wish you'd take one maneuver a month, show either through video or pictures, the exact setup you use and the stick movements you make to complete the maneuver. The other thing that would be helpful would be the ability to super impose the radio stick movement on the actual flying video.

We've got thee kinds of people who fly at our local field here in Las Vegas:
1) The people who know and fly 3D like Ryan, Mark and Trent
2) The people who would love to know how to setup and fly 3D
3) The people who have no intention on flying 3D but would like to know what the maneuvers are when they see them and understand why and how they work

That take up about 99 percent of the people who fly.

I hope you consider this suggestion and get those cameras rolling. I'm sure if you could get Horizon to back and produce something like this, Horizon's hits (and business) would jump tremendously.

I have a piped .60 2C that will give me 11+ lbs of static thrust with a 14x4. Any reason that wouldn't be a good powerplant for this plane?

It just means he's going to throw a $1000 engine at a $200 airplane, that's all...

That 1.60 is going to take that light airframe apart in less than a month. Those things hit HARD, especially on the bottom, which is where that massive engine will have to be most of the time, without blowing the airframe apart from speed. Here's to hoping it holds up...

I looked at a couple of James' other posts and he's talking about how gas engines cost too much money and wants to convert a weed-eater. Somehow, I think he's not real serious about the FI engine on this plane. As for this:

to were if i am i a hange or anything
E I E I O I have no idea. James, slow down and read your posts before you send 'em out.
