engine for GP Ryan

I've long admired this plane and now have one on the way. A 1.20 4stroke will probably be the powerplant of choice, but does anyone have any recommendations for me?

An inverted 91 or 120 will be fine. Probably the 91 would be on the low on power. Also, you might want to get an on-bord glow ignition as inverted engines sometimes flame out at idel. I've inverted serval engines and haven't had any problems. Don't let people tell it can't or shouldn't be done. Nothing looks as awful as an engine hanging out in the breeze on a scale airplane.

I have an O.S. 1.20 pumped in mine. Excellent power. More than enough to do whatever you want. No need to add ballast either.
I highly recommend the 1.20 in this plane.

I agree on the 120. Saito 120 on mine gives very scale performance. I get comments on how it looks and moves in the air every time I fly it. Running the Saito inverted with no onboard glow or pumps and its running great. Starts super easy as well and with around 25 flights, not a single dead-stick. So where onbard glow will help, it isn't absolutely required. From what I understand, proper tank placement is crucial especially without pump/regulator.

I have seen a couple in the forums/marketplace with small gas engines. From what I have seen, the cowl gets cut up pretty bad though and to me, just ruins the clean lines.

The 1.20 provides a nice, clean installation. You can't even tell what's in there. The only thing you can see is about a half inch of the muffler poking out of the rear of the cowl.

I agree the 120 4-cycle is the engine for this airplane. Have a OS-120 in mine and
it flies like a Ryan should. I installed an aftermarket landing gear and have had no
problems with the wheel pants. For the first 25 flights I flew withhout an on board glow.
Never had a dead stick but its idle was on the rich side. I since have installed one and
the engine runs much better. Also not having to use a glow driver is nice, just set the
throttle to idle and hit it with the starter. Like one of the others said the Ryan draws a
lot of attention where ever you fly it. Saw one with a Zenoah 23 in it, and it flew like a
warbird, and the cowl was mostly cut away. What a shame!

I have a g-26 0n mine flys very scale like. Inverted runs great but as stated above did cut away a lot of cowl for the muffler..used the stock one that came with the motor. Pictures taken from side oppisite muffler then looks great and you can't see it in the air.
