Default Update on my Lanier R/C Jester Project

I wanted to give you all and update on my Lanier R/C Jester Project. I started building and flying them when they first came out back in the 70s and this is Jester number four for me. Our modern day hot 61s make them fly super but put extra stress on the airframe.

To make up for the extra power load on the airframe I lay up some thin fiberglass cloth with thinned epoxy inside the fuselage from the nose to the area behind the front part of the wing opening and around the tail area. I pin the hinges to the foam wing and tail with tooth picks and epoxy. A thin cardboard piece covered with epoxy is used for the firewall. The main landing gear is beefed up by using standard landing gear blocks inserted into the wing. The wing filets shown in the photos are available from Lanier R/C as an extra item.

My Jester #3 with a piped Irvine 61 ABC held up for many, many years. The hot engine made it totally ballistic and super fast but it made beautiful slow landings. As I recall someone placed 2nd or 3rd flying one of them in pattern at the AMA Nats back in the 70s. One heck of a good deal on the price too at $69.99.

It has definitely got that classic 60's shape. You have done a fine job on it!
