I got a UCD 60 and I'm kind of disappointed. OS 91FX for power with APC 15x6, Hitec 605's, 635's and Futaba 3305, ALL SET UP ACCORDING TO MANUAL, but the darn thing won't even hover! I know power is not an issue, there's plenty of vertical lift, I am not a 3D expert but I assume that if I can do a sustained hover on the simulator I should be able to do the same with this plane, after all, isn't that what this plane was designed for?. Anyone out there flying this plane with a similar configuration? Am I missing something?

sims are easy . the u can do is one of the easyest planes to hover ever . dos it try to pull left like you have to hold a bunch of rudder in a hover . if you have the cg were they say its very nose heavy . you can move it back 1/8 or 1/4 inch at a time . the more aft the cg the easyer to hold a good hover.

It just takes practice, I use a Magnum 91 on mine, and even with me being 3500 feet ASL, I have no problem getting 20 - 30 second hovers out of it. I don't have nearly the vertical you enjoy, due to my altitude. Just keep at it, you'll get it.

Hey planecloths, I built the same setup as you all you need to do is switch props put a APC 16x4 and it will hovers easy it spools up slower but it works good and is plenty of speed for the U-CAN. Mark,

All are right on with the prop recommendations. How extensive was your dialing in on the thrust angle? As someone else mentioned, if your pulling left do to insufficient right thrust, then that is one more issue to fight when trying to hang. Check for up/down thrust as well. Is the model laterally balanced? Is the tail on 3D rates? The sim is a tool to learn, but by no means replicates hovering an actual model in real time. Practice will get you there. Good luck, Joe

Yes, the model is laterally balanced, thrust issues have been addressed, and the tail is on 3D rates. I guess I'm going to take it one step at a time, start moving the cg back, maybe 1/4" at a time (right now it's at 4 7/8) and if that is not enough I'll try a different prop. I want to thank you all for the feedback.
