Default flat spin twist

[&o][&o] Buddy of mine is an excellent pilot-- competes in pattern. Has bought two Twists, powered with YS 50 something. Really flies great, till he puts it in an inverted flat spin. The first one was drop dead gorgeaous- almost hovered as it turned. Couldnt get out of the second one-- one dead plane. Second one went down today, same thing-- couldnt get out of an inverted flat spin. Design defect or dumbthumb?

How low was he before he tried to get out. Mine will fly out by neutralizing the rudder and aileron and slowly backing off the elevator.
Flat spins seems to be what this plane does best, IMHO its not as good as the Pizazz it suposedly replaced.

It's really hard to imagine that someone could not get an ARF out of a flat spin but I don't have the Twist so I can't tell you first hand how it flat spins. Mine all come out after a few rotations, some less. But I always allow enough altitude after almost putting one into a tree canopy.

Was he still on the throttle trying to exit the spin. It always seems to me that holing a Twist in a flat spin requires power. Exiting the spin has only required the removal of power and pushing the nose over. A C/G moved too much aft could well make normal recovery impossible.

WOW!!!! the 2 twists that I have come out of inverted flat spins easy ,just release the sticks roll it on its top and fly it away. Both my planes will flat spin upside down or rightside up.IMO I would say that your friend had a CG aft prob.
P.S. if they get another one make sure they put some lightweight flying wires on it.
