What do you guys think of a BME 50 in this plane?? To much?? just right?? Let me know. I did the wing fix from great planes, also put blind nut s in the fuse for the cabanes. Any other advice would be great thanks

Power-wise, that's probably just fine. I have a Taurus 52 in mine now, and it is outstanding. Just do LOTS of firewall reinforcement, pinning, extra backup framing inside, etc. It NEEDS it...

Default bme 50 for power

the bme 50 was my choice for the g/p pitts...brand new out of
the box and mounted on the plane. we did one test run at the
field before putting it in the air. the engine has more than
enough power for the pitts. starting the 50 was very easy and
predictable. i had to make one adjustment on the high end
needle (1/2 turn out). do yourself a favor like i did, and go
ahead and beef up the box on the front of the fuse so you
wont regret it later!! i have roughly 10-12 flights on this plane
in the past 2 weeks and look forward to going this weekend.
the pitts is a real crowd pleaser at the local field and at a flyin
me and some buddies went to last weekend. as far as
mounting the 50, i used the hangar 9 big alum. beam mount and
made a 3/4 inch spacer to go between the mount and the box
to get the 6 1/2" distance required for the spinner clearance.
instead of mounting the rudder servo in the tail, i moved it inside
the fuse right behind the bottom wing mounting bolts and set it
up with pull/pull system. the c & h ignition box was mounted to the side of the box to keep it out of the fuse. the 1800 6-volt
pack was mounted on the cg, the ign. pack was mounted below the fuel tank. no weight had to be added. it flys great at 15 1/4
lbs. i hope this was some help to you on your project and making
a decision on the power.

thanks pittsman

I just got my brand new BME 50. Can't wait to get it in the air. I am going to mount it up just like you did. Rudder servo is already done though. I wish I would have thought of pull pull.
thanks agian

Quick question for all of you that have put a gas burner in your GP Pitts, did you glass the center section of the bottom wing? Is this necessary, any recommendations, comments, etc.? I am putting a Brisson 3.2 in mine and want to make sure that it is going to hold together.

sticks, as far as lower wing center section being glassed, i went
ahead and done that with a 2" wide piece of cloth since there is
a belly pan to cover it up with ease. for a good clean look, after
installing the pan with epoxy, i sealed it to the wing with some
matching monokote. glad to help ,if you get this in time......

Default g/p 1/3 pitts motor mount

bonanzadrv, the motor mount i used was the hangar 9
part # han2033 with a 3/4 inch spacer between the mount and
the box. also cut the center out of the spacer for fuel line access.
i went ahead and dry fit every thing and had the holes pre drilled
before i put the epoxy to it.any other questions, i will answer them as quick as i can check the forum.....
