Well, I just weighted my plane...14lbs!!! OUCH

Box states 12-13, and I assumed that with a light saito 180, no wheel pants, and no extra gear, it would weight on the lower end of this...

Now add 24oz of fuel and Im flying a 15 1/2 pound plane!

Keep in mind I needed 1 lb of lead on the fire wall to balance at 5 inches (the furthest aft recommended point), and I have a 1700mah 6 cell pack (?10 oz) in the nose. What the heck!!!

These is another identical plane in our club, with an os160, and he also has 1 1/2 lbs of lead in the nose!!

Is this typical for this plane???

Are you guys using a cg that is further back??

Any input appreciated

I think these manufactures take their planes to the moon and weigh them in a reduced gravity environment to come up with their listed weights. I have rarely if ever seen a plane come in at it listed weight range without having to make major lightening mods.

Default Cermark Pitts

I have a Cermark Pitts. Their website says weight: 10 lbs. Mine weighs 11 lbs with a Saito180, five servos, switch and a five cell NickelMetal pack. Also add the weight of 24 oz of fuel before take off.

My Sig Extra weighed 12.5 lbs with Moki 1.35. No L*** (ballast ) was needed as I put the Battery just behind the firewall. Vertical is awesome with APC 17x8 on FAI fuel.

Did you type it with the *** or did the site edit your word? I have seen it before (letters being replaced with *) and can't figure out why it happens or is done like that.

I think people put the ##** so as to not be blatantly profane, that's what I do anyway. It's also my experience that these Arf planes with the servo's in the tail are tail heavy. A friend of mine has the same Sig Extra with a 180 Satio in it and it was way tail heavy. He ended up using one elevator servo up front with a carbon fiber rod with a Y on it, and it still needed a little weight in the nose, but less then 1/2 the lead then with the two servo's in the tail. Plane flies real good on the heavy side though.

Default 300xs

My sig wieghs 14.5 lbs with a brison 2.4 and 2 1400 mah 4 cell packs. I moved the rudder servo to the tail and the plane balanced perfect. I dont know why your plane is that heavy, but I would consider a gas engine and loose the lead. Thats just my 2 cents

bpu,

One guy in our club had the Sig 300, and had a Moki 2.1 in it - it was pretty heavy, but flew good.

Concerning the lead, could you put some of it on the inside of the cowl? If you do that, you should be able to reduce the amount of lead (oops, L***)you need...

I have the Sig Extra with a OS 160 Bisson muffler.
I built the plane as per instructions. I did not add any weight to the plane to get it to balance. It is a little nose heavy. The 1400ma battery pack is up front. I think alot of people bought heavy Extras from Sig. I got lucky and got a light one. Mine weighs 13lbs ready to go. It flies great. You got one of the heavy ones.
