Default H-9 Mustang Assembly

After first reading some of the postings here on this forum, I am about to start assembling my P-51. However the modifications that I plan to do are :

1. Change the supplied retracts to Robart's 609HD. I have read some who are installing pneumatic retracts but since I do not have any experience of retracts until now, I will stick with the servo retracts.

2. Epoxy the inside of the firewall, fuel tank area, and all accesible balsa joints with thinned expoxy.

3. Change the fuel tank to a Sullivan 12oz (using a Saito 100). I have had problems with fuel tanks supplied with ARF's (leaks)...I'm taking no chances here.

4. Cut the bottom side of the cowl, next to the firewall, and install a Du- Bro "Fill it Fueling System". Du-Bro part number 840. I will need to glue a piece of plywood / balsa to the firewall to house this.

5. On-line glow..hmmmm, this is a new idea so I'm not 100% into this one yet, but I will probably go for it.

6. Using Futaba 9C, so I will be using a Futaba Rx. I will use 3004 servos for the wing surfaces and throttle, but not sure for the retract, and tail surfaces.

7. The Saito 100 will be the biggest engine that I have worked with (the last one was a Saito 72). I have seen some big 4-strokers with pumps but for what reason would you use a pump?

8. Any suggestions regarding the hinges? I am thinking of using something else but I am not sure which hinges to consider?

Anything else to think about (nothing that means cutting into the ultracote)...?

Thanks Flying Scotsman
