Default will the magic extra make a good 2nd plane

i have long past mastered my trainer and have a little bit of 3d experience on an extreame 330 and some low wing experience on various other models. i am looking for a good second plane. i am 14 years old and make my money by mowing the lawn so the plane should probaly be under 150$ i was considering the modeltech magic extra. does any one have any other suggestions.

I have that ARF and although it flies nice, it's a pain to assemble. It's light weight and can break easy. I put lots of balsa, ply, and CA to make mine stronger. Working in that skinny little fuse is a pain. Once it's done it does fly well but the covering starts to peel off. Using a clear Luster Coat and spray it into a little cup, paint it on all the covering seams with a little brush. It's the only way to stop it. But that's a lot of dinking around.

I also have a Hanger 9 Ultra Stick 40. It's really easy to assemble, flies so well, and takes a pounding. It's a really well built ARF. For a 2nd plane I highly recommend it. The funny thing is it's the easiest ARF I have to hover with a 46FX and 12.25-3.75 prop. It just hangs and takes very little to keep it vertical. I'm still not board with it and I'm on plane #7.

Oh, going to tail draggers was the easiest transition I ever made. It's a no brainer to take off and land if you ask me. Way easier than a trainer. And you can actually taxi in high winds. I NEVER tip over (while taxying, keep lots of up elevator and also keep the engine blowing plenty of prop wash on it..that'll keep the tail down).

I had a Magic, both my kids flew it on a buddy box. Dialed down it was quite stable but I think this plane is best suited for electric. The Twist is an inexpensive ARF with good reviews!
Best to you!

i know someone who had one of these for his second plane, he was only on his trainer for about a month and then he brought it, soon after he was hovering, i think it would be a great second plane. Just start of with the control throws farily small, not to small to make it boring though.

I have a Magic Extra with a TT54 in it swinging a hover prop it flys great and lands ever so softly. If you do purchase one though you should as mentioned seal all the covering seams as its true the covering will peel. Also beef up the fuse with some small ply gussets up the front where the wing seats, as its prone to break the fuse in half if not and landed hard.Set your cg up slightly tail heavy not as they say in the instructions, you will also need some weight in the nose, use those stick on wheel weights.Mine fly inverted hands off and lands like a dream, it can be flown very slowly or very wild your choice.Another option is a Morris The Knife, they are great it was my second plane its a little ripper and very forgiving it will teach you so much.Easily built and easy to repair if you stick it in the dirt.Mine has a Enya 53 on it and it will perform any trick in the book.Best of luck..

The Magic was my second plane and the Magic Extra the third ... its a nice plane ... iron all the striping before you build it and also please reinforce the fuse to take some hard landings. It flies nice ... I loved it but 3D is not what I am into. You will have fun ...

How about the Great Planes Venus 40? It's $160 and it got a good review here on RCU.
