I'm gonna do it today.....I mean it.
I'm not kidding here.
I'm gonna get the GP Ryan STA-M and put an OS91 on it. This is no joke. You have until 3pm CST to stop me.

Thanks for the laugh, Jeff!
The Ryan is right under a GeeBee on my short list. I just don't have anymore room for these giant planes.
I was (am) going to put a YS91FZ on it.
Go for it Jeff, it's a beauty!

Rex,
I had a Byron Ryan STA (and a SIG; talk about work to build
) but now I think it's time for a military version. It should sit well with my Stearman N2S1 don't ya think?
Dave,
I got the Kyosho GeeBee Z (finally!) but I'm gonna wait a bit on that (big corn around our field right now). So the Ryan will have to suffice.
It was a hard choice. I had to pick from the EZ Zero (it would have been my 4th one in the past 12 years), The World Models Chipmunk, H9's P-51 and the Kyosho AgWagon.
I ask you... what would you have chosen.

Don't worry about the STA being prettier, I got them both! By the way I'm thinking of recovering the fuse with chrome ultracoat (not quite as shiny as monokote) and the cowl and pants with Flitemetal or Presto. YS-120 Baby! Red diagonal stripe on the wing.

NA!! YS = headache, I'll stick with my OS. I have already seen how much time other members spend on their YS's. I'll still have at least a 1/4 of throttle for ringing out with my OS FS 120 pumped, And I won't have to worry about tank placement.
I have already made one person at the field mad, because I got this plane before he did. I told him to go ahead and get one as well so we could share idea's but he declined, he doesn't want a plane that someone else already has.

So, do you fly with a bunch of nannies or what?
YS ROX, what problems? Just know how to handle them.

Blackie, I read that you got a RYAN on one of the threads, have you had time to assemble it, yet?
Let us know what you think...I can modify my short-list! LOL
Happy flying!..
p.s. The YS was made in heaven, that's why it costs so much........it's just the freight.....

I am kind of taking my time on this one. Taking a break from it this eve to work on the yard
I am now in the process of installing the servo trays.
The wing is complete all except the wheels I have on order. I just picked up the engine today.

I kind of had an idea that YS had a pump system but was not sure. As I stated above they require more attention then the OS although they are more powerful then the OS I prefer less headache. I also believe the OS 120 will give the Ryan plenty of power with some to spare.
I'm not knocking the YS its just that I would rather fly then tinker with the engine half the day.
I'm not up as to what engine produces more power then the other but if I am not mistaken my Saito 100 is equivalent to the YS 91 in performance, so if that is the case then what your saying is the Saito 100 produces more power then the OS 120? Myself that sounds irrational and hard to believe. *shrugs*

OK maybe I over did it a bit but I do know that the OS or more user friendly then the YS. And you are correct I have never flown a YS, all I have to go on is what other owners have told me about theirs and from what I have seen at the field.

I bought one new YS, the .53 when it was first introduced. I researched the web and got tons of information, yet it never ran reliably. Performance Specialties recommended an upgrade kit to add an airbleed screw. This was $35 and didn't help much. I ran YS 20/20 and so forth. YS loyalist who couldn't do anything with it, said, "Oh, it's only the .53, the others run great!" I ended up giving it away only to laugh every time the new owner thought he "had it right", only to deadstick at an inopportune time.

Here's an update:
I am quite disgusted with my LHS. I had planned to get the Ryan there. The LHS gives a 10% discount to club members. I was under the impression this applied to anything R/C. NOT TRUE. They wanted me to pay full price. Well, I countered that I could get the same plane from Tower $15 cheaper PLUS not have to pay sales tax. The manager there said the lowest he could go was $339.95. I said thanks but no thanks and walked out the door leaving the plane on the counter. They always complain there that we buy our stuff mail oder and don't give the LHS a chance to meet or beat mail order prices.
Well, I gave them the chance (several times now) and they refused. I ended up ordering the Ryan from Chief Aircraft. They had it on special for $329.95 with FREE FedEx SHIPPING. So, it's on it's way and I should have it by early next week.
I spend quite a bit in the LHS. In my opinion it wouldn't have killed them to give me 10% off and I pay sales tax and walk out the door a happy customer. It really chaps my ass when they do stuff like this. The same thing happened when i got my Raptor 60 heli. I showed them the ad from HeliProz and asked if they could meet that price but once again the manager got all huffy and indignant with me about it saying these internet places are screwing him. I can't help that. If I can get it elswhere for a substantial savings how is it my fault. I want the guy to stay in business but I know if an internet place can get it cheaper then so can he. I KNOW what the LHS pays for the stuff they sell. Their excuse is they want to keep their margins up. That's fine but be prepared to lose some business then. Most retailer would prefer high inventory turnover rather than having items sit on the shelf for months at a time.
Oh well. I'm done ranting for now. I have a new plane on the way and I just can't wait to show them the bill of sale and rub it in their face they lost a sale. I know I'm a stinker but I was pissed.

Jeff, I feel the same way.
I have tried for years to purchase at my LHS. They really get put-out trying to meet a web price, so I don't do it anymore.
Don't they realize that you'll come back for those Robert hinges, Sullivan fuel tanks, different engine mounts, CA, epoxy, De-bonder, wheels, raw balsa tri-stock, canopy glue, canopy paint, spinners, fuel, glo-plugs...etc...etc.
If I owned a hobby store, I'd sell the plane at cost, or below and profit from the incidentals.
Gosh, why do they all want to cut-a-fat-hog-in-the-xxx.
A few days won't hurt you, Jeff, you'll forget all about this after you get it airborne....But you won't forget about how you were treated.....
...Will you?

I never thought about Chief when I purchased mine.
I was quoted a price of $339 from Hobby Barn (which is cheaper then tower) but add another $25 for shipping it came out at $364 My LHS quoted me $340 with tax it came out to $362. So guess where I purchased it at. Our LHS has no special deal like discounts. *shrugs*
