Default Will it hover?

Will a Twist 3D hover with a OS .46 or a GMS .47? I have 2 planes that will be here tomorrow, a Skyraider Mach II and the Twist. I have a OS .46 from my Nexstar. Looking for a inexpensive engine for the Twist. I was thinking of putting the .46 on the Skyraider and getting a new one for the Twist. Just wondering if a .47 GMS will be enough.

Just barely, it will, but you will be at the top of the power-band.
If you want to learn to hover, you want to have UNLIMIETD vertical.
I would use an os 70. four stroke, or a TT 61 two stroke.

Which is better, the GMS .61 or the TT .61? What about the size and weight compared to the reccomended .40-.46?

the 46AX will hover twist from the reports I have read, make sure you have the right prop for ir though. I do have to agree, for unlimited flight you might want to consider a smaller 4 stroker like the Saito 72. Some users have modded theirs to accept the engine.

Personally i'd get the Magnum 52, OS 50 or the 46ax/fx to keep weight and costs down. OS 50 being the most $$ though

OS 50= about $150-160
magnum 52 xls= $79 on sale
Os 46 = you already have it, no money spent

have fun, go fly!!

Why not look for a mini tuned pipe for the 46FX ... that will help keep cost down. The 50Sx would be lovely. Getting the TT61 is no point for a 40 sized 3D plane as it will increase dry weight by about 10 oz and then you will be nose heavy. You want as light as you can get for your wing loading.

YES! I'm using an OS 46AX with a 12X4 APC prop. Hovered an entire tank of gas last weekend, hammerhead back to deadstick landing!

FYI,

Twist will also hover on an Evolution .46NT w/APC 12.25 x 3.75, but slow pull out. Engine's not fully broken in yet though, so maybe better in the future.

Twist also has good stable inverted flight characteristics. Wa getting smoothy inverted passes down to 1-2 ft most of the length of the runway last trip out.

[sm=thumbup.gif]Enough to pull it around with fairly good vertical. I can take it up to "speck" height hanging on the prop. Not really fast as I have it propped, but I'm looking for torque, not speed.

My 46Fx can hover my EF Edge 540 profile at half half thotlle WITH the tower muffler and 30% Nitro, and APC 12.25x3.75.
That combo can pull out from hover any airplane at 4.5lbs. I know, i do it every weekend

That tuned pipe cost only 15$ and increase by 700RPM min the 46FX. I tached 12700RPM the APC 12.25x3.75

Mine hovers with an OS .46 AX turning a 12.25x3.75 APC. This motor/prop will take it vertical out of sight.

I have a 46FX with tuned pipe in my twist I would not say it has Unlimited vertical but it will hold a hover with no problem. I just switched to a 12 x 4 prop going to see how I like it today. Was running the 12.75 x 3.25. Probably wont ba a lot of difference. It is a very fun plane.
