WM Velox Rev II - 60 advise needed
I putting together my new Velox Rev II.
-- I was wondering what engine to put up front for 3D maneouvers and some aerobatics? Should I go two or four stroke?
-- Would it be alright to put two low profile servos at the back for greater command over the elevators?
-- What about installing pull-pull for the Rudder with a Hitec 605 ?
Any recommendations or ideas would help.
Cheers.

Kaz ... 4C is the way to go for acrobatic planes as you want torque, go for a Saito 100 ... you will have great power to weight ratio. Are you sure you can easily mount servos in the tail? The fuse is rather fragile. Pull pull rudder will be great but is the rudder servo in the centre?

tIANci.....thanks for the input. I was thinking about the ASP 91 FS....but will take your recommendation on the Saito 100.
As for the two servos at the back for elevator....I would have to reinforce the area where I was thinking to install the two low profile servos. I was just wondering if anyone has done this with this particular plane.
I have the same setup on a 1/4 scale Sukhoi.....lots of command with the elevator using two servos and shorter coupling.
As for the rudder servo....I am placing it in the centre, so a pull-pull would be the way to go I think.
Any other advise out there before I start to put this plane together?
Cheers.

RE: WM Velox Rev II - 60 advise needed
Since I am currently flying this model let me make a few reccomendations. Don't overpower the airframe. It is built on the rather fragile side to keep weight down. I'm using a Saito .91 4 cycle engine for power. With this engine it will do most 3D manuvers but lacks in the vertical. The power to weight ratio does not exceed 1:1. I am using two servos to drive the elevators mounted in the rear of the fuselage just in front of the leading edges of the horizontal stabilizer. These servos are of the low profile style used in thin wing installation and are rated at 65 oz/in at 6 volts. The rudder uses one servo rated at 115 oz/in using a pull-pull cable installation. Do not confuse push-pull with pull-pull, using my method will ensure constant tension applied to the rudder. This aids in centering and potentional flutter problems.
Words of advice: check incidence angles of wing and stab=ensure there are 0 degrees
if you end up adding up trim recheck incidence angles=the anti-flutter tips
may have to be repositioned
the engine mount is manufactured for an OS .91 4 cycle
the landing gear will start to crack

I have one and I set it up the way the destructions(instuctions) said, I am running a Saito 100 with a smoke pump and I love it!! And yes the gentleman is right the landing gear bracing inside will start to crack!! I reinforded it with some Balsa and plywood let me know if you need pics?

flycatcher and speedy....thanks very much for the info. Much appreciated. I'll bolt on a Saito 100 up front and install two low profile servos at the rear. Flycatcher...thanks for the location tip. I'll pay attention to all help.
Speedy.....how do I beef up the landing structure? If you can..pls sent me pics of the setup.
Flycatcher....do you have any pics of the pull-pull setup and exact location of the two rear servos? If so could you send me pics?
Thanks for the info on the incidences etc......
What about the plane in flight? Is it stable and hold it's direction? Does it pull to canopy of belly on knife edge flight?
Cheers

More Pics
Yu cant see it that well but I made a notch for the reinforcements with my dremmel at the top so they would fit snug on the wood next to the tank let me know if this helps. The back of the Velox landing suppurt is the first to go that is why I put most of the support there and trust I have put a copuple of landing on it that I am not proud of!!!

Flycather I would apreciate it if you can send some pics on how you mounted the elev servos Thanks,
Eddie (speedysaenz) andale andale ariba ariba!!
Also dont forgret to replace the tail wheel with something of better quality the one that comes with the ARF is *****!!!

Yes I know I give way to much advice!! Well it is just my 10 cents I know its 2 but I have alot!! One more idea just in case you did not know already. The airframe on the velox has a lot of space and it is very easy to mount your antenna inside the fuse that way it looks much cleaner and nicer, I personaly love it. It was passed on to me by a friend and that is all I use on all my planes!!. Just make sure that it is atleast 2 to 3 inches away from that pull pull metal cable system on the rudder.
You can see how I installed the antenna in the pics.

HI Speedy....thanks a million for all the good information. Most helpful buddy I will be sure to replace the tail wheel.
What size prop do you use on the Saito 100 for this plane? Is the one you are using giving the best performance? I was thinking of an APC 14 X 6 for my engine.
I always route my antenna inside my crafts......it is neater and I never had problems. My CG Sukhoi has pull pull installed and the antenna is about 3 ins away. Knock wood....I never had a glitch with this setup and I'm using two (2) 6V 2000 mah NiMh battery packs in parallel.
My Cap 232 also have the antenna installed in the fuse with no glitchs detected.
I'm hoping to get pics of the servo setup from flycatcher so that I can have a starting location to position mine. Shorter coupling for the elevator really does give more hold and command in flight.
Thanks again Speedy....you have been really helpful.
Cheers.

Kaz,
I don't have the capability to post pictures on the net. Maybe another modeler can forward you some pictures of there elevator servo installations. The installation is not complicated but you will have to fabricate two servo trays/mounts. I chose low profile servos because of the limited clearence in the aft end of the fuselage.
The supplied tail mount assembly is adequate for this airplane and has survied over fiftytwo landings on my aircraft. The only mod I did to this unit was replace the foam tail wheel. I did not reinforce the landing gear mounting unit and it is not failed. The landing gear is showing stress cracks and I will eventually replace this unit.
This is my first aerobatic model and after sorting out the CG and incidence problems I am over joyed in its flying characteristics. I'm doing things with this airplane that I have never done before. What really makes this plane interesting is its' wide speed envelope. When I perform a positive snap roll it just hangs in the air and appears to be standing still.
Super airplane for enhacing your piloting skills. I'll give it a ten.

Ok Flycatcher.......thanks for the reply and info. I would like to see the rear servo location...so if anyone has done it...please post so that we can get an idea of where to place the rear servos.
Here's a pic of my Sukhoi and the location of the rear low profile servos. I will use my initiative and install them anyways and deal with the CG as the assembly progresses.
Cheers

Ok Flycatcher......will try to install this weekend. I'll just shift the "innards" of the radio-box around a little.....check balance, reshift radio box....check balance etc until I get a good CG location....then batten everything down.
Thanks again guys.
Cheers

Hey Kaz,
Today I upgradded how the wing holds on to the fuse by adding 1/4 20 bolts and nuts, the nuts on the wings and the bolts inside the fuse it seems much more secure and I got this idea from reading other posts e-mail me if you want pics. I personaly think I did a hell of a job!! I used 3/16 plywood for the inner wing and the reinforcement for the inner fuse
I just was uneasy about that little screw holding the wing and when I did a search for that I saw many other people were also!!

Hi Speedy.....I emailed you.
Let's see the pics of the new mods. I just have to break in the engine at this point and go fly.
I can handle one more mod though..... every bit of information helps.
Cheers.

By the way when you do install the 1/4 20 bolts cut them in half it will save a lot of time when putting together and taking apart, Trust me I learned the hard way!!!
