RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
The other problem with the 337 and common to all cowled in engines is cooling. Baffles need to be installed in both cowls but especially the rear cowl.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Very nice flying Berto. It sure looked foggy. cold, overcast, and windy. Perfect weather for the re-maiden. You really nailed the landing each time. I could even make out the rear prop noise at times. Progress here is slow. I am still in the repair stage of the old 337 and am awaiting parts missing from the new 337 arf. I am sure things will get finished soon. The weather here should start warming up and the days are getting longer.
Thank you for the video. It really inspires us all. I always look forward to the E-mail notices of new posts in this thread.

Hye Tom,
Thanxs for your positive words
The wheater was foggy for sure, couldn`t go to high and to far otherwise the plane was out of sight, during the day the wheater went better and also my flights
The filmed flight was an easy one, the flights thereafter were more spectacular and with more rear proip noise
Landigs were OK but not everey landing was as I planned it, but that will be better during the season (I hope [8D] ).
Next time I hope the wheater is better for a new video and then I gonna practice more for my "meeting flights".
I hope to let you all see more soon.
Greetz,
Berto.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Disaster strucks
Yesterday at flight 3 it all went wrong.
During a pull out shortly after a vertical pull up after a full speed fly by the elevator block in a little nose down attitude.
I was at a height of approx. 75 mtr and I managed to get the airplan on a long final, but the nose pointed more down after the last turn and a really hard crash landing was the result.
On the final I played a little with gas and flaps and that resulted in a more flat crash landing because the nose raised a little but not enough to reach the field.
The damage is mostly the fuselage at the gear area, both firewalls are ok, the front engine is broken off from his mount.
One tailboom is lightly cracked in de aft area, and 1 rudder is damaged.
Nose cowling is cracked and the LH wing spar is bend a little.
The first goal is to have it flyable again on may 24 during the first meeting of the season, otherwise it must be flyable on 20 june for a large scale meeting.
I`ll keep you posted.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Finally got around to flying my Skymaster. With the Magnum 160 twin up front, and the Saito 130 twin in back, there was PLENTY of power I really doubt that losing an engine will cause me too much trouble, as I imagine it will fly just fine on either of the two.....although I'm not gonna try it unless I have to

Hye ScottMcM,
congratulations with your succesfull maiden of the Skymaster, great plane to fly with
And don`t be affraid of one engine out flights, even with only my aft engine running (a OS FS90) I was able to gain some heigth and make a nice circuit, so that no problem at all.
My first turbine jet is finished and have flown so now I have time again to repair my Skymaster......

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
I have two Saito FA-100T's (twin cylinder) engines I'm considering using on my KMP 337. Has anyone installed these engines on their 337? If so, I'd can you post of pictures of how the engine installations went? And is it wishful thinking that should one FA-100T fail, the remaining engine could continue to fly this plane?

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
I haven`t seen 2 twin on this plane but maybe someone did this who is also reading this thread.
And yes, the plane still will fly with one engine out.
In the beginning my front engine (a OS FS 120) died several times and I had to fly with only the aft engien running (a OS F 91).
It still for me was possible to remain in the air, even gain some height and settle in for a nice landing.
So with 1 twin running this also must be possible.
My Skymaster will not fly before the season of 2010 []
I`ve set my mind for this season to modify our Dornier 335 Pfeil (also a push/pull - http://www.***************/ons/do335/Do335.htm ) and fly that on the meetings this year here in the Netherlands.
I still have 3 weeks to finish it, before the next meeting in June.
The Skymaster has too much damage to repair it in such a short time, see the picts, sadly
But it will fly again

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Well Bos, I still have'nt test flown mine yet. I look at the droop in the booms and it kinda irritates me. Just does'nt look right. So there it sits on my shop bench, completly finished and ready to charge and maiden but Ive just about lost all intrest in it. And as I mentioned before, there were no short-cuts taken in building this and the cost stands at about $2,000 bucks. If I try to sell it some "Clown" will offend me by saying " Duh, Gee, Will you take $200 dollars for it " ?. Maybe I better stop complaining at this point and just think about it somemore. MM

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Just take it of the workbench and fly!!!
Once in the air you will love the plane and feel stupid you didn`t try it earlier ;-)
And like you said selling is no option.

Allright, There is an airport that will let me use the active runway as long as I give right-of-way to the full scales. Kind of a little "Terry Town" type airport north of me 35 miles. Real cute. Gimme a few weeks, I'm going out of state. MM

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Hello to all Skymasterfriends andenthusiasts!
I also own a KMP C337 with the former AustralianCoastwatch paint scheme applied on her body.
I finished "building" 3 years ago.Unfortunately, for that time Ijust flew her 6 times.
Flying is really great fun and enjoyable likewith most (model / full scale)Cessna aircraft but there is a serious problem I am completely at a loss with.
In particular it's all about the exhaust system of the front engine (OS FS 91 S).
The system is made up of the original OSsilencer, a flex tube of stainless steel and 2 aluminiumadaptorsto connect the tube with the cylinder head and with the silencer.
The silencer itself is mounted with an aluminiumclamp on the firewall.
After every 2nd flight the flex tube brakes off directly behind the adaptor (seeattached picture)so there is an oily mess created in the inside of the front cowling.
I have tried so many options and spent too much money on a solution that could have workedout but with no success.
Before the exhaust system was mounted on the firewall, the silencer went through the firwall.
That option alsoproved to be ineffective due to oilleakage caused by opening thread connections while the engine was operating.
I tried special high temperature glue-sealing materials andspecial washer that shouldprevent a loosening of the threadconnection -howeverwithout any success.
At presentthis aircraft really annoys meand I am fed up coping with the same problem again and again for years.
I am loosing the fun and the joyof this plane which is why I hardly fly it.
I spend more time in the shopthan to actually fly it. And I mean airplanes belongto the sky, notto the shop!
Maybe you have some good ideas how to solve that problem.
I would be grateful for any hint.
Have you ever had similar problems?
Which way do you choose for your exhaust system?
Thank you very much in advance and wish you more fun with your Skymasters than I have...
Kind regards,
Michael

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Hye Michael,
It`s such a great flying plane that it is a shame to let it stand in your hangar.
But with the problems mentioned I can imagine.
I had (have ;-)) my front exhaust almost the same build up as yours, till the "crash"my lasted for 37 flights and 5hr 32min in the air.
Hope that after repaier it will hold longer.
The most important trick is that the exhaust hangs free in the right position, then install the clamp.
If there is just a little bit of tension on the flex pipe it will brake at the connections.
Good luck.
Berto.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Hi Berto,
thank you very much for your quick reply!!! :-)
I'mhappy to share experiencesabout our beloved Skymaster.
Especially,in difficultcaseswhen there does not seem to appear a light at the end of the tunnel a good hint can be so valuable.
I will test some other adaptors (90° manifold) in combination with a flex tube which is held as short as possible.
Maybe a damperbetween silencer and clampextends the lifespan of the flex tube by reducing oscillation while the engine is running.
37 flights withone exhaust tubeis quite a long time. To me that is a magic number I have to catch. That's my big goal to go for... .
Just cutting another hole in the cowling for thefactory muffler would be to easy... . Apart from that it woulddestroy the clean look. ;-)
What about your 337?
I have read your last posts and saw the sad pics... .
Hope you can fix your bird and bring her soon back to the sky.
Blue skies,
Michael

Hye Michael,
Can`t tell you which manufacture made theflex. tube, I bought it at our hobby shop which sells it separerate at the desired length.
So can`t helpyou on that.
My Skymaster willfly again but not this season, It`s a shame, had a lot off meetings planned overhere with it but now have to fly some other stuff
Hope too remaiden our Do-335 Pfeil coming days so that one will replace the Skymaster for now.
The fuselage is a mees, have to do a lot of repairs on that, the wings / tailbooms and tail are not damaged.
It will take a wile but it will fly again for sure.
Greetz,
Berto.

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Hi Berto,
that's a good attitude.
Take your time to fix the Skymaster!
I'm sure it will payoff when the repair job is done properly.
Me, I also need some time to test different ideas for my exhaust system.
I am used to that... . :-(
Nevertheless, it's all a matter of patience and time.
Maybe we can arrange a meeting for formation flying one day.
We do not live too far away from each other. About 2:15 hrs averagely by car.
Let me know when your Cessna is serviceable again... .
Regards,
Michael

RE: KMP Cessna Skymaster
Hi 2 all,
since last September i own the 337 from Eurolight and i think it is the same size as the one from KMP.
so, i have some questions.
first how many space is aprox for the front prop?
wich one do you use front and rear?
what is the wight of your 337?
The reason for my questions is an electric conversion and i have no idea wich brushless, prop and lipo pack to use.

Hye temini38,
The Eurolight and KMP 337`s are the same I believe.
For some dimensions, video`s and more specifictions take a look at my site, there are also a lot of pics:
http://www.***************/berto/skymaster/skymaster.htm
If you have more questions just ask.
Have fun with the 337.
@ SR71,
I will keep that in mind, I need to repair my front cowl after the crash but maybe it`s easier to order a new one.
