Funtana 90 HELP PLEASE
Hello , Just got my Funtana 90 today and I am trying to figure which engine is better ...Saito 120 or YS 110 ? and where can I buy either at a good price? Also I know the YS will fit without moding the blindnuts or firewall in anyway , will the Saito fit as well ????
Thanks Todd in Vegas

RE: Funtana 90 HELP PLEASE
Hello Todd,
I am running the Saito 100 in my Funtana and at the moment I am wishing for a bit more power. To be fair I am gonna wait a bit longer and let the engine finish breaking in and see if the power I have been reading about shows up with the other guys running the 100. I still have a few weight issues to deal with too.
To answer your questions, Tower Hobbies is going to have the YS engines in stock next month and Horizon hobbies carries the Saito engines.
I have read every post in the other thread on the Funtana 90 and the popular opinion is to go with the YS 110 if you have to buy a engine anyway. The Saito 120 is alot heavier with very little power gain.
I can't tell you about the mounting issues. I don't have the Saito 120. Sorry
I would suggest you read the other thread about the Funtana completely through before you get into building yours. There are alot of good suggestions from experienced 3D fliers in the thread and also some crash reports on things that have gone wrong on some of the other guys birds. It can't hurt and only takes about 3 days to get through them all, but I promise you gain alot of good advice if you do.
Good luck on your Funtana
Kenny H

RE: Funtana 90 HELP PLEASE
Go YS. The Saito will require a new mount or relocation of the stock beam mount (the blind nuts are pre-installed). Also, the Saito 120's thrust plate will stick out about 1/4" further than the manuals recommended distance. After mounting a Saito 180 in mine (I already had the engine) if I were to buy a new engine for it I would go with the YS 110. Good luck!

I used the YS 110 for the RCU Review, and it was an outstanding choice.

The Hitec 5625's and 5645's will be a great servo for this plane...good luck!

The Digital HS-5645MG have 168oz torque @ 6.0V. If everything in the wing is in order, then this should handle and hold great. I plan to put some thin CA in a few key points around the servo tray in the wings to make sure that it is strong or at least try to make it stronger.

RE: Funtana 90 HELP PLEASE
I hear YS is good, but the Saito is my choice....
I have the 120 and loads of power....
yes, I did rework the firewall, but it worked out for the best,
now I have absolutely no excessive vibration at any rpm.... very cool....
I used the DuBro Shock mounts and fiberglassed inside the
engine area and the landing gear mount...
I have installed: JR 5625's in wings and elevator, 5645's in rudder and throttle.
a Slimline Pitts Smoke Exhaust and Sullivan Skywritter, On-board Glow,
Fibrelite Landing Gear and Mejzlik 16x8 Carbon Fiber Prop with Tru-turn Spinner.
I am using the new Multiplex Evo 9 synthesized radio and receiver and love it......
Seriously, read other posts, you will find many people discussing
their problems with construction issues and how to resolve them. I know it helped me....

Hey bud, You can't make a mistake by purchasing the YS110. It is great for the funtana. I have a saito 150 on mine and it works just fine also. Even though I guess the 150 weighs a bit more the plane still floats right in. I keep on overshooting my landings with it.
