I just got a Twist a couple of days ago. Mine is going to be powered by an evo. Going to run a 11x6 prop. on it.

If you really want to try hovering and the like a 12x4 is great. some recommend the 12.25x3.75 APC prop but I liked the 12x4 better on my twist with an os fx46. will hover with enough power that I don't worry TOO much about flopping over into an unrecoverable position and will pull up out of the hover fairly nicely.

I have 50+ flights on my twist and I love it. I have both a .46ax and .50sx and I run 12.25x3.75 props on both. The 12x4 isn't to bad but if you look at the APC's blades you see that they are REAL narrow and therefore not as good as the 12.25x3.75 which has real wide blades and grabs more air.

I experimented with different props on my Twist and the APC 12.25x3.75 is the one I kept. The engine is an OS .46 AX.

With these .46 engines, how many of you had a Twist thats tail heavy? I had to add a whole mess of weight to the nose to get it to
balance between 4 and 5 inches from the LE.

It seems from all the posts on this plane that you should expect it to come out tail heavy with a .46 size engine so expect to add a little nose weight. I got mine fairly early so I found this out the hard way. The general consensus now seems to be to ignore the recommended firewall/spinner backplate distance (I did it per the book) and instead mount the engine as far out on the mounting rails as possible to avoid adding any more nose weight. Of course you will want to also do everything else you can to keep the weight forward like mounting the battery under the fuel tank and mounting the servos and receiver as far forward as possible. Do that and hopefully you won't have to add much dead weight to get it to balance out properly.

Has anyone found that moving the engine forward effects performance in any way? I'm about to mount my engine on my Twist, and would like to mount it forward to save from adding weight.

I had to add a LOT of weight to the front of my plane. I always try to mount the engine as close to the plane as possible. I installed a OS FX 46. It runs excellent but I think it is a little under powered for the plane. I made 6 flights tonight beautifull weather. Had 4 flights yesterday. Runs great and on high rate it will do it all. I use flaps on landing and it makes it much easier to land. Had a little mishap last night and did some damage to the fuse but repair was very easy. had to add the MAUI sticker to cover damaged monokote.

My Twist was a stock build with the exception of a Sullivan tailwheel assembly. I run a V-Max .46 engine. I didn't have to add any weight to mine to balance at 4 3/4".

The twist is the *****. I just won the very first fun-fly I have ever entered. I have a OS .50sx w/12.25x3.75 prop. I did mount it out further on the mounts than suggested. It seams to work great for me. I didn't have to add any weight to the plane either with the battery under the tank. My father who has ALWAYS loved war birds thinks he wants fun-fly/3D planes now. We will have to see how things continue with his trainer first.

Anyway it rocks and I LOVE it. I actually like it a lot more than my Funtana 90s/saito150. You can just fly it around in a 100'x100' box and have a ball all day.

There's some bs floating around about moment of inertia if the engine is out too far. If you drill the front holes about 1/4" from front of mount, it'll be fine. I still had to use a heavy Higley hub inside spinner to get a 4 1/2" cg. I had a TT 46 to go in it, but I didn't want to cut so much of the side cheek for the exhaust, which lead me to the TT 54 4c.
For starts, don't go past the 4 1/2" cg. Too many expert pilots are suggesting rearward cg to intermediate pilots. Not many average pilots can fly helo-planes.

I've got a Rossi 45 with a mini pipe I'm going to power mine with. The Rossi weighs almost as much as a 61, so I don't think I'm going to have the balance problems some guys have had with lighter engines.

One thing, and maybe I'm having a "senior moment"...the instructions call for a balance point 4-5" from "the leading edge of the wing against the fuselage". Is the cg measured from the cutout in the front of the wing, or is it off the very front of the leading edge?

The leading edge with the wing mounted. Most folks test CG with the tank empty, but I test it with it full too then split the difference with my optimal CG mark.

I mounted my engine way out on the nose. I did that last so I could adjust it depending on balance. I held it in place with a few rubber bands until I got it right. I have my battery just behind the tank by the receiver.

I agree with you on the 4 1/2" CG for new Twist fliers. Any further back and the plane will balloon on landing when you get slow. Most people would think that you need to just land faster, but this plane won't quit flying when it's going fast.
