Engine for GP Pitts

I need an opinion as to what the best engine would be for a GP Pitts. I would use either a 4 stroke of a gas engine. I want plenty of power but don't want to overpower and tear the airframe apart.
I know there have been many flown and I am very interested in what has worked well. Please tell me if you have an engine that you feel is ideal. I am not interested in a particularly cheep engine. I want one that is going to run well and provide enough power.

I don't own the plane, but a good friend of mine does and he put a G-62 in it. I know it sounds like a lot, but it seems to fit the plane perfectlly. I've flown it and it flys great! I swear it'll land slower than a trainer and i couldn't make it do anything stupid in a stall.

In the new ModelSport Video Magazine, John Beach brakes in
talking about his Balsa USA Pup. He is easy to pick out because he is REALLY GOODLOOKING
--he probably does a couple of landings in a 15K crosswind--but most of all-he is REALLY GOODLOOKING
--he is really a great guy also :rainfro:

I'm considering putting a ZDZ 80 in mine. If the pitts can handle a G-62 it will surely fly better with a large disc, smooth
running, and lighter weight engine like the 80.

Hey, Im the new guy.
I am very interested in the GP Pitts. Purchased and watched the Model Sports vid. Not enough time spent on this fine model in my opinon.
I own, and was thinking of useing a FPE 2.4 engine, (41cc). Weighs in at 3 pounds, with a 20x10, produces 18#'s thrust. Whatcha think?
I have it mounted on a Sig 4 star-120 now. weighs in at 15#'s and has vertialy unlimted vertical. I would like to add smoke the the Pitts also, so extra weight there.
I have been very impressed with the FPE so far. Ran great right out of the box. I think it should fly the Pitts just fine, but I would like the opinon of others more experienced than I. I am not familar with the other engines mentioned in this thread.
Except the O.S. Twin the "really good looking guy", mounted on the Pitts in the vid

IMHO
I have seen the plane fly with several engine combinations they all seem to fly well. I like the Saito-300 twin, although the fuji-50
and the Moki 2.10 did well.
It all depends on the way you like to fly.
The G-62 must make that pitts ----- ROCK.

The FPE 2.4 would not be a bad choice. I bet that 4*120 does rock with it! 18 lbs of thrust would not be bad at all on this plane. Especially if that is the engine you already have. A 22/8 prop may also make a difference considering the drag. I have seen them fly good with a G45 although it did have its limits, it certainly was not what I would call underpowered. I, too think I will add smoke-(got one laying around somewhere)--At one time I was concerned about the added weight--not anymore.

I am flying mine w/ FPE 2.4 and it is a good choice. While it does not have unlimited vertical, It flies the quite nice. I am not a 3-D flyer, but do like aerobatics, and it will do all the scale manuevers nicely, and due to the lite weight of the engine, keeps the whole package much lighter. I have flown w/20x10 Zinger Pro, and also w/ 19x11N Mezjlik 3-blade. I like the 3-blade best, good down line braking. This plane does not have the traditonal drag that most bipes exhibit. At 15lbs, floats in on landing, and will overshoot very easy. Have about 25 flights on mine and think it a KEEPER.

I am planning to install higher torque than normal servos also.
Im thinking coreless, metal gear, somewhere around 80 to 100 inch pounds. What are you useing?
