Discontinued, and real hard to find.....I agree with the assesment, however, the Advance would have been a perfect choice.

Wish they still made the Advance 40......I was ready to move up to that plane in June. Saw one NIB at a swap meet, should of bought . but you know. Anyway, I think a Stick plane is a great 2nd plane, but that just my option. I got a Ultra Stick 40 for my second plane, on low rates is very mellow lands super easy.......put it on high rates..........Look out!........Something I'm looking forward to. Hopefully more guys will post ,I'm still pretty new to the sport. Theres alot of guys on here with a heck of alot of experience than me. Good Luck ,JT

There are a lot of well behaved planes that will make a great second plane. The only type you should stay away from are the tappered wing aerobats like the Extra, Edge... a lot of them tend to be pretty snappy and can be a real headache. in a nutshell just about anything with a symetrical constant cord wing is likely to do the trick.
The Ultra is certainly a good choice, much more aerobaticaly capable than a trainer, but still a lot like your trainer. flip the flaps on and you can crawl around slow. Good choice for getting familiar with tail dragers. if you get one, Use nylon bolts on the landing gear.
Depending on your personality, another good choice might be a Somthing Extra. much smaler and very capable of wild spins... but if you keep the control rates reasonably small it behaves very nicely. Be sure to add big high contrast spots or stripes to the bottom of the wing. Very helpfull for keeping orientation. The SE arf is decorated the same on top as it is on bottom.

I'll cast a vote for the .60 size Ultra stick.
I have the .40, with a K&B .60, and it's cool, but...
The .60 is bigger, easier to see, and fly...
I'd probably put a new series Magnum .90 in it...
With 10, 20 degrees of flaps...it would probably out-float anything, but perhaps a Kadet Sr.
It'll fly around all day at half throttle....punch it....and you got all the verticle, and monster loops you could ask for...
You got all the flaps. and air-brakes, and "crow", and mixes to play with....you can get more fun/exp., out of this one than most guy's could get of thier first six regular planes.

Well, theres a problem with all those mixes...it takes a computer radio to take advantage of them...a Futaba Super 8 series or above...or the JR 632 or higer...it would be unlikley for a beginner to have that high quality of a radio yet...but, if he needed a reason to get one though....heheheh...at least that's how I upgraded.

Yes, exsactly....that was the excuse I used for gettin' a computer radio...( heh heh heh ).
The Futaba 6Xas will do it...I know.....(some said it wouldn't)...
Flaps, flaperons, airbrake, and crow.....
As well as elevator to flap mix...
flaperon to elevator mix.....
And will reverse a servo...for like dual elevator servos....(use Ch. 5 as a slave off Ch. 2 ) This won't work, if you have retracts on Ch. 5.
The only thing the "6" won't do is... "couple - flaps/ailerons".
( the guy at Futaba told me...the "6" won't do this stuff, but they will ).
Bruckners in N.Y., sells 'em for $219., and If you ask him...he will include the 3004 BB servos...
How do you like the 120 size ??? I have a YS 120 4-popper lookin' for a home....

Best fun I ever have is with the biggun'...Saito 150 is the mate, love it , love it, love it..
Big slow and agile...and then fast smooth and predictable.
The vertical drops with crow seem like s-l=o=w= m=o=t=i=o=n.

How Bout the Sig Rascal 40 - I'm finishing one up now and it has to be one of the best ARF's out there- Quality through and through - I also read that they fly great and land easy -I will know this weekend.

Even if you don't have a computer radio, just use just the optional strip aielerons they give you, the Ultra still is a good choice. The flaps are fun, but about half the time i don't even use the flaps or crow and am just carrying around 4 OZ of dead weight.

I have to agree with Carlos. The WM T-34 was my second plane and it could be setup to fly like a trainer or you can hotten it up to even perform 3D maneuvers. Mine would hover with a 46fx and a 12x4 prop. Plus it looks more scale than a "Stick" type airplane. You can not beat the $129 price tag. This plane will perform a snap roll tighter and faster than any of my other larger planes.
There is a club in CA (forgot the web address) that pylon races with the T-34. I spoke to them and they have 50 or so guys, each one with this plane. They say they are one of the best ARF production planes for this type of flying. I agree, this thing will turn on a dime and is as fast as hell for its size and style.

I recommend one of Sig´s kits 60 size Four Star or Astro Hog.
I flew both and are outstandings as second models.
With a Saito 72 the Astro was awesome!!

SIG 4 Star 60, I have flown many of the above mentioned aircraft and really liked our Advance 40 and the sticks are a blast with flaps and computer radio but IMO the 4 star is a great second plane. With a few mods it can be quite an aerobat later.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Dazzler or Magic. Both have very low wing loading and can be flown at a crawl, and with tamed control surface deflection are very stable point-and-fly planes. Turn up the high rates though, and either can be the most aerobatic plane at the field.
