Woa, Jim!
Boy that is a REAL storm starting question!!
If you search RCU, you will find a bunch of threads on the MDS engines.
They run the gamut from "I love 'em", to "only good for boat anchors"!
Apparently MDS DID have some QC problems, just maybe they are cleared up.
I have two 1.48's that I have not ran yet(haven't put together a plane for one yet), and a .78 in a US 60 that just runs absolutely super! Great idle, transition, power, etc.
So, at this point, I guess I am in the "I love 'em!" camp!!

From: Coeur d\'Alene, ID,
My friend has had two dead sticks out of the last two flights that were very bad news...Two major repair jobs to a once beautiful Edge 540. He is researching the problem, it appears they have a fix...something about a carberator replacement. I would do as Pud suggest and look before you leap.

My LHS is waiting for the new carbs for all his MDS engines and will not sell one till they come in. I hope this solves the problems some people have been experiencing since I'm thinking about the 148 for an upcoming project.
