Has anybody out there had any experience with this plane? I have an OS 91 FX that needs a good home. If not, then any other suggestions?

Building one as we speak. Note though that when I ordered mine, I was told it was the last one they had until Labor Day.

What do you want to know?

How does it look? I have the .30 size Extra that I am building, and it seems to be an excellent plane. I was hoping that the Giles would be the same. Have you seen one fly, or heard from anyone that has flown one? I'm wondering about the flight characteristics. Also, what do you plan to power yours with?

Well it looks good. I called Yellow because I had some questions and found that they hadn't actually built one yet.

I've also found a couple of people here who have bought one but no one has one flying yet.

A Saito 1.00 is going on the front of mine if I can get it to fit. I weighed all the parts and with engine, servos, battery, etc... , it should be about 7 lbs so it should be a rocket.

That sounds like it should be a great combination. I would like to have a 4 stroke in one, but I already have the OS 91 FX and need to use it. Keep me updated on how it flies! I have a GP 1/4 scale Giles with a Saito 180 that flies great, but would like something that the pucker factor would be a little lower on for everyday flying. Do you plan on having it ready soon?

Well, I would LIKE to seeing that I'm after selling some planes and crashing one other, I'm down a bit. I'm putting it together a little slower than normal though as;

1. I'm doing an RCU review for it as I build it.
2. Having a bit of trouble getting the servos I need for it. Just called Servo City though and they expect a shipment in Thursday which will hopefully have servos for me..

So, I COULD have it flying in two weeks if servos come in quickly enough.

I can understand about the "stable" getting slimmer! (How do you think I came about having an engine needing a home!) I'm glad that your doing a review on it, as I have a birthday next month and have a little time before I'll be ready for it. I hope that it turns out great!

Excellent airplane, great flying characteristics, lands easily. Mine has a Saito 100 turning a 15x6 APC, hitec 225's mounted in the tail for elevators, hitec 605 pull-pull rudder, hitec 5625's for ailerons. Battery is 4.8 oz mounted against the firewall. Dubro 16 oz tank mounted on the CG with a hayes 2 oz header mounted under the engine box. Needed a heavy dubro spinner to balance. Came in at 8 lbs 4 oz + 2 oz for the heavy spinner. With some work I could get it under 8 lbs, but don't think 7 lbs is possible.

Saito 100 is plenty for my type of flying: scale flying with some aerobatics.

Looks as good as it flies.

Going to build a backup as soon as they get more in.

That sounds like it's just what I'm looking for! It should fly well with a 2 stroke 91. Is the building pretty straightforward?

Generally easy to build. The tail is more complicated than other ARF's I have built, but not difficult. The nice thing about the tail section being open (prior to installing the horizontal stab) is that installing elevator servos back there is a breeze.

cwoodstx: Thanks!!! Puts my mind at ease now that I know someone HAS built it.

I thought about doing the dual elevator servo's in the tail but I was scared I'd have to add too much weight up front to balence so I'm building it pretty close to stock. I think I will go with a smaller tank though. Can't believe they put an 18.5 oz tank in it!

Did you modify the tail section at all? The way they have you do it will leave fairly large gaps.

Oh, and do you have any pictures?

lnoris: don't have pictures. I still have a small gap at the back of the tail. I covered it so its not noticable. I don't think the guy that designed it ever had to put one on. I also put the horizontal stab a little too far back which did not help. I did not follow their instructions, either. I did not have enough hands to do what I think they meant. I just aligned and glued the stab, then glued the rear verticle support piece, then fitted and glued the stab support piece, then the tail. Before I started I pre-fitted to see if it would work. Flies fine though, in spite of my efforts.

Just about to start the tail on mine. Still trying to get full throw with the stupid Y-pushrod. Thinking about doing the MK Bellcrank instead.

We'll see...
