Default Seagull Extra 300S Stunts?

Hello,

I recently bought my first sport plane, I have the Seagull Extra 300S .60 size with a Super Tigre 90 on the front!

Love the plane, she flys great, but I'm new to stunts and just starting to get brave enough to try a few....

I was wonder what all stunts will I be able to do with this plane and the engine?

Anyone who has this plane with a 90 I would love to hear what you can do with it!!

I know I can do snap rolls and loops the basic stuff, but what about knifeedge and any 3D? or is the 300 just to squirrelly?

Thanks,

Michael

My father in law is coming to visit this weekend... Unless he has crashed his, maybe I can give a flight report on the airframe early next week if he brings it. I think he is using a 60 size engine, so it isn't going to be any sort of monster. The 90 size engine is a better choice.

Do a search under seagull and you will see several flight reports.

Hi Michael! I am going to throw in my .02 cents worth here since I DID see you fly it the first time. Heh heh...you did a fine job too.

I will say that it will be able to do anything you can do. It seemed to be a stable flyer, something you can grow your aerobatic skills on. I'm sure that it will do precision aerobatics as well as freestyle stuff. Spins, knifeedge, snaps, rolls, etc. all possible. 3D perhaps, but I don't think it was designed for that type of flying. Once you get the most out of the present setup, you can begin to experiment with the CG, and the throws, and that should add some dimension to the planes character.

Generally Extras are pretty responsive aircraft. Next time out, get some altitude, and see what she'll do. I bet you will be surprised at what you can coax it to do.

Give me a shout sometime, and I will try to hook up with ya. Have a good un.

I have the Seagull 300 Extra (60) and love it. Mines running a Saito 91 and does all the pattern stuff well. 3D even with a bit more engine would be difficult since I think it needs more tail feathers. You will find the manual calls for minimum throws on the controls surfaces at high rates.......BELIEVE THE MANUAL!. This bird, at least to me is very responsive. First flight(s) should be on very low rates. GL...

I have one with a Thunder Tiger .91 four stroke. The plane flies fine. Knife edge has some belly tuck. Work that out with elev. mixing. It will hover for a second or two then falls off. It is not designed for 3D. I'm working on flat spins with it trying to find the right combination. It flies great inverted. It's at it's best doing loops, 4 point rolls, split S, figure 8's etc. (pattern stuff). Dead stick is no treat. It hunts the ground fast. If the engine quits glide it straight out and keep a steep angle of descent. DON'T try a slow turn the wing tip will dip and in she goes.

*note: check your firewall, mine was hot glued in and broke loose.

Well my father-in-law brought his plane and I flew it a couple of times.....Both times till she ran out of fuel. This is definitely more of a pattern plane than 3D....which is pretty obvious just by looking at it. Thin wing small surfaces. I think for the size, it is a bit heavy as it seems to be at it's best flying at a decent speed. Slow flight is no problem, but not the best. He has a 60 size engine on it and it seemed to be a about the right combo. No need for an oversized engine on this plane as the airframe won't really allow you to use it for anything other than more speed. My father-in-law had the idle set a little high, so flat spins were difficult to enter. Overall, a decent flying plane.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have enjoyed flying mine!

For $144 you can't go wrong with this plane to get into an sport plane. Horizon sells all the pieces to the plane seperately if I crash her, so the most I would be out is $50 unless it is a total loss crash.....

See ya in the air!
