Default Giant Scale Planes Hellcat

Anyone try to fit a Zenoah G26 into one of these GSP 120's as of yet? They seem to suggest it is a good 120 replacement but am a bit unsure of the size and weight restrictions. Just wondering if anyone has tried anything gas so far...

The G-26 weighs around 53 oz, so the plane will be way nose heavy. I had an OS 1.20 III pumper on mine. That engine weighs around 35 oz, and I still had to move the Rx battery pack way back to get the plane to balance.

I'm going to try the Roto 25 gasser next:

It's a compact, smooth running, 25cc (1.50 ci) engine that's pretty much the same size as a Saito 150 and swings the same prop at the same rpm. [link=http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/engines/roto25.html]Click here[/link] for more info.

I am hoping to find something that can stand the higher heat of the stock cowl... That and have to power needed... The only engine I am finding that can seem to do this is the RCV SP engines but they seem heavy too... Hate the idea of 2 stroking it and hate the idea of hacking up the cowl when it looks so nice... I guess that is all of our problem on most planes when you really get down to it...

The OS 120, Saito 120, Saito 150, Saito 180, and the Roto 25 shown above will fit completely inside the cowl. Do you see big holes in my cowl in the pictures below?

Hellcats have big cowl.

Richard, you sure have some great warbirds man! What's your opinion of the GSP kits if you don't mind me asking? I was thinking of getting the Hellcat, but I'm still researching before I $hell out the 300.+ for it...Thanks, Tom.

The Hellcat is pretty good. You can get one for less than $200 from eeBay.

Richard:

What muffler is that on your engine?? And how's the plane fly? I'm flying a Great Planes Stuka ARF right now, and am looking for something a little nicer.

Thanks!

Richard,

You have inspired me to get back to work on mine. What gear do you have in yours? I got started on scale gear doors and then got into flying season and it went on hold.

That's a Slimline inverted Pitts muffler. The plane flies great.

Richard:

Your aircraft looks to be a different color than their pics. In fact, yours looks alot nicer than their dark color. Did you recover it? Is this the correct ARF:

http://www.giantscaleplanes.com/Hellcat_70.htm

Was the ARF fairly complete? Ive never had any brand of ARF except for Great Planes, thats why I'm asking. Have any more photos? Like of the underside of the wing, gear area, and radio tray area?

Thanks!!

I have the factory paint scheme on mine. Keep in mind that my paint scheme is not very accurate. The majority of Hellcats were done in either the tri-color scheme (white bottom, intermediate blue on sides, and sea blue on top) or overall glossy sea blue.

The ARF was fairly complete. Sorry I don't have pictures of the underside of the wing, gear area, and radio tray area. I can try to snap some later.
