Default Sig 49" Rascal battery pack

I will be assembling the battery pack for a my Rascal. The intent is to fly the plane on the stock setup in the beginning. Then if the Rascal flies decently I will upgrade the power package in the spring.
I have new GP 1100 NiMh high rate cells that will be used for the pack. The manual for the Rascal states 8 cells will destroy the brushes rapidly. This warning seems to be based on NiCad 600AE cells. Any comments on the choice of 7 or 8 cells and the longevity of the stock motor and performance will be appreciated.
